DescriptionThe whole story▼

The rear brake of a Multistrada 1200 S leads a quiet life and a busy one. It is the control that trims speed in traffic, holds the bike still while a passenger climbs aboard, and takes the edge off a downhill hairpin without upsetting the front. Accossato's Organic material, on the AGPA29 rear pad as article AGPA29OR, fits that pattern: the company connects this compound with a long working life and with treating the disc it runs against gently. The listing covers the S versions from 2015 to 2017.

Key Features

  • Rear brake pads for the Ducati Multistrada 1200 S, 2015 to 2017
  • AGPA29OR: the AGPA29 shape in the Organic friction material
  • Accossato links this material with long service and restrained disc wear
  • Suits a rear brake used often and gently rather than hard and rarely
  • Covers the S, the S D-Air, the S Touring and the S Pikes Peak
  • One caliper at the rear, so a single box completes the axle
  • ST, STMX and EV1 are the other versions of this shape
  • No German ABE on file; competition part

Construction and Material Quality

Two things are claimed for the Organic material and neither is about force. It is meant to go on working for a long period, and it is meant to be kind to the disc. At the back of a heavy touring machine both matter more than they would at the front. A rear disc lives in everything the back wheel throws up, gets looked at far less often than the front pair, and costs real money and real time to replace, so material that wears it slowly is doing the owner a quiet favour over the years. The plate beneath is the usual AGPA29.

A Pedal Used Little and Often

Count the rear brake applications on a commute and the number is surprising. Every queue, every roundabout, every set of lights on a slope, plus the small drags that keep a laden bike settled as it rolls to a halt. None of them is hard, few last more than a second or two, and together they make up a working life spent at low temperature and low pressure. That is a different job from the one the front does, and it is the job this material is aimed at.

Two-up riding adds a layer. A passenger stepping on and off at a kerb turns the rear brake into a parking brake several times a day, and luggage on the back of a Multistrada 1200 S keeps the rear tyre loaded enough that the pedal genuinely slows the bike rather than locking the wheel. When the pads finally come out, look at the disc too: a rear disc that has spent three winters in road spray often looks worse than the material that has been rubbing on it.

Fitment and Compatibility

The rear entry takes in the same four machines as the front one, with the same small differences between them: the S and the S D-Air across 2015 to 2017, the Pikes Peak from 2016, the Touring listed only to 2016. One caliper does the work back there, so a single box is a complete change and not half of one. The front pad for these bikes is the AGPA106, listed over the same seasons, and the disc programme includes the DKS053. Compare the shape you remove with the article you have ordered before fitting anything.

Road Approval

For the AGPA29OR we hold no ABE and no German test certificate, so the pads are supplied for competition rather than for use on the public road.

Scope of Delivery

One box of two AGPA29 pads in the Organic material, enough to change the rear caliper of the Multistrada 1200 S completely.
