DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Yamaha R1 has been in production since 1998, which makes Accossato's entry one of the longest in the catalogue, and in its later years the model has spent more time on circuits than anywhere else. Owners travel for it. A weekend at a circuit two countries away is an ordinary plan for someone who has built an R1 for track use. Accossato covers the model with the FC124, a quick-release fuel tank cap machined from aluminium with the pawl in a choice of six colours.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Yamaha R1, 1998 to 2025
- The SP version of 2006 is listed as well
- Made entirely of CNC-machined aluminium
- Quick-closing pawl for opening and closing the tank in moments
- Pin in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
- Pawl available separately as a spare
- Confirm the year of your machine against the application list
- No German ABE documented; a part for the circuit
Construction and Material Quality
This cap is machined from aluminium on CNC equipment and contains nothing else, which is the basis for Accossato's description of it as robust and durable; the design is new. A quick-closing pawl holds it shut and releases it with a single movement, so the R1's tank is open for as long as the pouring takes and no longer. Six colours are offered for the pin, decided when the order is placed. Accossato lists the pawl as a spare in its own right, which is the sensible arrangement on a machine that is likely to be used hard.
Driving Abroad for a Track Day
Circuits that are busy at home are often quiet and cheaper a few hours across a border, and a van with two bikes in it makes the arithmetic work. Such a trip needs a little more planning than a local day. Fuel cans travel badly if they are full, so most people buy at the destination; the rules about carrying them differ from country to country and are worth checking rather than assuming. Tools, spares and paperwork go in the same box every time. The R1 itself travels strapped down with its tank shut, and the first job on arrival, before the awning goes up, is usually to find out where refuelling is permitted on that particular site.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the YZF 1000 R1 from 1998 to 2025 and the R1 SP of 2006, and this product covers those entries. In our shop the FC124 is also filed under the MT-10, the MT-09 and the FZ1 Fazer. Please match your machine against the application list before ordering, particularly if it is an early one.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no parts certificate are documented for this cap, so we supply it for closed circuits. An R1 that is still registered for the road should keep its original cap, which normally opens with the ignition key.
