DescriptionThe whole story▼

Nothing else in a paddock looks like a Yamaha Niken. The two leaning front wheels made it the most discussed machine of 2018, and the riders who bought one did so knowing they would be answering questions at every stop for the rest of their lives. Accossato lists the Niken for that first model year against the FC124, a quick-release fuel tank cap machined from aluminium with the pawl available in six colours. Behind the unusual front end, a great deal of the machine is conventional, and refuelling is part of it.

Key Features

  • Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Yamaha Niken, model year 2018
  • Accossato files the machine as MXT 850 Niken
  • Aluminium body, machined on CNC equipment
  • Quick-closing pawl for opening and closing the tank quickly
  • Six pin colours: blue, green, black, red, silver, gold
  • Pawl available on its own if it is damaged
  • Match your machine against the application list
  • No German ABE documented; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

For all the novelty of the machine it goes on, the cap itself is a straightforward piece of work: aluminium, machined throughout on CNC equipment, robust and durable in Accossato's description, with a new design. The quick-closing pawl opens the Niken's tank in a moment and shuts it just as quickly. The pin inside it comes in six colours and is chosen when the order is placed. Accossato lists that pawl as a separate spare, so a damaged one does not put the whole cap out of use.

Three Wheels, One Tank

An unusual machine attracts an audience, and an audience changes how a simple job feels. Filling the Niken at an event means doing it with people standing nearby asking how the front end works, which is a good reason to have a routine that does not need much thought. Engine off, machine standing on level ground, can and funnel ready, cap open, fuel in, cap closed and checked. Answer the questions afterwards. The front suspension may be the reason everyone is looking, but the part of the bike that needs your attention at that moment is the one you have just opened, and spilled fuel makes as much mess on three wheels as on two.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the MXT 850 Niken for 2018, the model's first year, and that single entry is what this product covers. In our catalogue the same FC124 also appears for the MT-09, the MT-10 and the FJR1300. Check the application list before ordering.

Road Approval

Accossato documents no German ABE and no parts certificate for the FC124, so it is a part for closed circuits. On public roads the Niken should keep its original cap, which normally opens with the ignition key.

Scope of Delivery

One Accossato FC124 fuel tank cap with the pawl in your chosen colour. The pawl can be reordered as a spare.
