DescriptionThe whole story▼
Among hard enduro riders, the KTM 300 EXC has long been a favourite for rocks, logs and steep climbs taken at walking pace, with the clutch and the rear brake doing as much work as the throttle. The rear disc is involved in almost every metre of that. Accossato's DK018 serves the rear of the 300 EXC and is listed from 1994 to 2026. It is made as one piece, which the supplier calls steel-made, and measures 220 mm with a 110 mm centre and a 4 mm friction ring.
Key Features
- Fixed rear disc for the KTM 300 EXC, 1994 to 2026
- Off-road range, made in one piece
- Steel-made according to the supplier
- 220 mm outer and 110 mm inner diameter, 4 mm thick
- Replaces the original rear disc directly
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- Supplied as a single disc, without German ABE
Construction and Material Quality
Of the three discs Accossato lists for the 300 EXC, the DK018 is the thickest and the only one for the rear. It is a single part with a bore that locates it on the hub, and Accossato says it replaces the factory disc directly. The brand relates its understanding of discs to Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 racing, and points out that a lighter disc makes a motorcycle easier to steer and control. Before it goes on, note the minimum thickness printed on it: that is the figure every later reading will be checked against.
Creeping Down a Rock Step
On a steep, rocky descent the technique is to let the bike roll in first gear with the engine barely running, feather the clutch and hold the speed with the rear brake. The front brake is used with care, since a locked front wheel on a rock face easily ends in a fall. That keeps the rear disc under steady pressure for long periods, often at very low speed, when the airflow that would cool it at higher speeds is missing. Watch for the signs: a pedal that sinks further than usual, a smell of hot pads, or a disc that has changed colour. On a 300 EXC ridden this way, the rear pads and disc wear together, so measure the disc whenever you renew the pads, and replace the brake fluid regularly, because heat from the disc passes into the caliper and from there into the fluid.
Fitment and Compatibility
From 1994 to 2026, the rear of the KTM 300 EXC is where Accossato places the DK018, with versions from a 1995 WP model to the TPI bikes, and it takes the place of the original rear disc. For the front the list has two options, the DK017 from 1994 to 2023 and the DK259 from 1993 to 2024, which differ in diameter and thickness.
Road Approval
The 300 EXC often carries a number plate, yet no German ABE and no type approval are documented for the DK018. We supply it for competition and for off-road use away from public roads.
Scope of Delivery
