DescriptionThe whole story▼
Rocky enduro trails threaten more than engine cases and radiators. The front disc of a Yamaha WR450F sits low in the wheel beside the fork leg, and a sharp stone flicked up by the tyre, or a rock step taken slightly off line, can strike its edge hard enough to bend it. For the WR450F from 2016 to 2022, Accossato lists the DK268, a fixed, steel-made front disc, 270 mm in diameter and 3 mm thick, that replaces the original disc on the front hub.
Key Features
- Fixed front brake disc for the Yamaha WR450F, 2016 to 2022
- Single steel piece, part of Accossato's off-road disc range
- 270 mm across, 118 mm centre bore
- 3 mm thick; minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- Six holes of 6.5 mm on a 134 mm circle
- Interchangeable with the original equipment disc, says Accossato
- No German ABE documented; intended for off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato makes the DK268 in one piece: braking surface, 118 mm centre and mounting holes all belong to the same steel disc. It bolts to the hub through six 6.5 mm holes on a 134 mm circle. With no rivets there is no play to think about and no joint where dirt can settle, which suits a bike that is ridden through mud and hosed down every weekend. According to Accossato, its approach to brake discs comes from racing on asphalt, in Superbike and in the Moto2 and Moto3 classes.
When a Rock Finds the Disc
A bent disc rarely announces itself at the moment of impact. What riders notice later is a front brake that pulses at the lever, a rhythmic rub when the WR450F is pushed across the paddock, or a lever that comes back further than usual after a fast section, because the wobbling disc has pushed the pads apart. The check is simple. Lift the front wheel off the ground, spin it and watch the edge of the disc against a fixed point on the caliper; a workshop can measure the run-out properly with a dial gauge on the fork leg. Before blaming the disc, make sure the wheel bearings are sound, since a worn bearing produces a similar wobble.
A disc that is visibly bent should be replaced, not hammered straight. Straightening a braking surface by hand leaves uneven spots that the pads will find, and a thin off-road disc has little material to spare. Some riders fit a disc guard for rocky terrain, which is worth considering on a bike used for hard enduro, but no guard covers every angle. After any big hit at the front, make the disc part of the post-ride check, along with the fork seals and the rim.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK268 for the WR450F from 2016 to 2022 and states that it is interchangeable with the original disc. For the same years it also names the DK269, a larger floating disc, while the older WR450F up to 2016 appears under the DK111. At the rear, the DK168 is listed from 2003 to 2022. The WR450F uses one front disc, so a single DK268 covers it. Tighten the disc bolts to Yamaha's specification, and bed the disc in with fresh pads before a demanding ride.
Road Approval
No German ABE is on file for the DK268, and there is no type approval. It is sold for off-road riding and competition.
Scope of Delivery
The DK268 front disc as a single part, without pads or bolts.
