DescriptionThe whole story▼
Natural-terrain motocross tracks, cut into hillsides rather than shaped by bulldozers, ask a lot of the front brake. On a Suzuki RM-Z250 you come over a crest, the track drops away and bends at the same time, and the ground leans the wrong way. Brake too hard and the front tyre slides towards the low side; brake too little and you run wide over the edge. This is the setting for Accossato's B8262, a brake lever with a folding blade, listed for the RM-Z250 of 2004 to 2020 and cut from Ergal 7075 in Italy.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Suzuki RM-Z250, 2004 to 2020
- Listed for all three of Accossato's version groups: 2004, 2005–2006 and 2007–2020
- Replaces the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Short blade designed for three fingers
- Anti-break joint lets the blade fold forward on impact
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Black, blue, gold or green blade on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for motocross and off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato's story goes back to 1969, when the company was founded in Moncalieri, outside Turin, to make competition motorcycles, and racing remains the yardstick for its levers. The B8262 is CNC-milled out of a solid block of Ergal 7075, chosen for its high strength so that the lever can be sturdy, light and reliable at once. It is assembled from two parts: the dark base mounts on the master cylinder pivot, while the blade, offered in four colours, connects to it through a joint that allows folding. The brake blade is the short one and is made for three fingers.
Off-Camber and Downhill
Braking on an off-camber descent is mostly a matter of timing. Riders who are quick on hillside tracks do the hard braking while the bike is still upright and the ground still level, then ease off the front lever gradually as they lean in, keeping just enough pressure to hold the line without asking the tyre for grip it does not have. On an RM-Z250 carrying good speed downhill, the window for this is short, and the fingers have to find the lever at exactly the right moment as the bike rolls over the brow.
When the timing is wrong, the front tucks and the RM-Z250 goes down on the low side, often sliding a little way down the slope before it stops. If it falls to the right, the brake lever is among the first parts to touch the ground. Accossato's joint gives the B8262 blade a way out: it can fold forward rather than snap, so there is a real chance that you lift the bike and ride away with a front brake. It is not a promise, and a slide into a rock can still ruin a lever. On a track where the next off-camber section comes round within half a minute, though, a working brake is worth a lot.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato divides the RM-Z250 into three version groups, the 2004 bike, the 2005 and 2006 models, and the long run from 2007 to 2020, and lists the B8262 for all of them at the original front brake master cylinder. The C7220 folding clutch lever is a different case: it is listed for 2004 and for 2007 to 2020, but not for the 2005 and 2006 bikes. The clutch lever comes in black, gold and green; blue is offered only on this brake lever.
Road Approval
The B8262 has no German ABE on record. Like the RM-Z250 itself, it is meant for the motocross track and other off-road riding.
