DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Versys-X 300 is Kawasaki's small adventure bike: a high-revving 300 twin taken from the Ninja 300, a 19-inch front wheel on spoked rims, and a riding position that tempts you down the gravel road rather than back at the end of the tarmac. On loose ground many riders stand on the pegs, and standing changes where the hands meet the levers. Accossato's EDF025 takes over from the original front brake lever of the Versys-X 300 from 2017 to 2023: machined aluminium, adjustable in reach, in three blade lengths.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Kawasaki Versys-X 300, listed 2017 to 2023
- Uses the original master cylinder
- Adjustable distance between blade and grip
- Short, standard (approximately 138 mm) and long blades
- CNC-machined from aluminium, anodised, black hub
- Seven colours for the blade
- Fixed blade without a hinge
Construction and Material Quality
Small adventure bikes like the Versys-X 300 collect dust, mud and the odd scrape from a bush at the side of the trail. The EDF025 copes with that because its colour is anodised into the aluminium surface rather than painted on, and anodised aluminium has a hard outer layer. Accossato machines the lever on CNC equipment before anodising it; the hub, with pivot and adjuster, is black, and the blade is coloured. The blade is one piece and has no folding joint, so there is no gap for mud to pack into and stiffen the action.
Braking on Your Feet
Standing on the pegs lets the bike move beneath you over ruts and stones while your legs absorb the bumps, which is why it is the usual stance on gravel and dirt. It also changes your arms. When you stand, the hands arrive at the grips from higher up, and a brake lever set up for seated riding may point above the fingers rather than into them. Two things help. Many riders rotate the lever assembly slightly downwards on the bar, a compromise that works both seated and standing. And the reach of the EDF025 can be brought in, so that the index and middle fingers rest on the blade without the hand shifting on the grip, ready for small, careful applications. Loose surfaces reward a light touch on the front brake, and the short blade, made for two-finger braking, suits that style well on the Versys-X 300. If most of your riding is on tarmac, the standard blade remains the natural choice.
Fitment and Compatibility
On the Versys-X 300, the EDF025 is listed from 2017 to 2023 and replaces the original lever on the master cylinder. The ESK025 clutch lever is listed for a shorter period, from 2017 to 2020, so for later bikes only the brake side appears on Accossato's list.
Road Approval
The EDF025 is sold for closed-course use, as there is no documented German ABE for it.
