Read the Sprint Filter media table from the bottom up and it behaves like a ladder: the T12 at 7 microns, the P14 at 14, the P037 at 37, the P08 at 80, each rung giving away retention and buying airflow. The P08 F1-85 sits past the end of that ladder, and it is the only rung that moves in the unfamiliar direction — 85 microns of filtration, coarser than the P08's 80, in exchange for 15,000 litres per square metre per second of airflow against 5,050. Roughly three times the air, paid for with a step backwards in filtration. On a 150 cc single such as the T-150, that is the first thing worth saying.
Key Features
- Polyester for competition, used dry: 85 microns, 15,000 l/m²/sec of airflow
- A coarser weave than the standard P08's 80 microns — filtration is what the flow is paid with
- Dry throughout, so no film can settle on the throttle body or the sensors
- Twice as much filtering surface, near enough, as other performance filters
- The original airbox takes it unaltered — nothing modified, no remap, homologation as it was
- Washable, reusable, warranted for two years from purchase
The figure that looks like a contradiction
Sprint Filter's own comparison measures this medium retaining 95.22 per cent of 100-micron test particles against 93.13 per cent for the standard P08 — the coarser fabric scoring higher. There is no sleight of hand in it, only a limit to what that test reports. A 100-micron grain is far larger than either rating, so both stop nearly all of it and the result turns on second-order effects rather than on the ratings. The difference between 80 and 85 microns lives below the size the comparison looks at, among the fine particles that settle slowly and stay airborne longest. A retention figure measured with coarse grains cannot speak for that fraction.
Who the extra air is for
Air demand is set by the engine alone: displacement, revolutions and throttle opening. A 150 cc single asks for a modest volume even at full song, and the standard airbox was dimensioned to cover it with room in hand. Tripling the element's flow capability hands a surplus to a machine that already had one, while the more open weave works in every second the engine turns. For ordinary use the sensible reading of the table is the ordinary one: the P08 at 80 microns and 5,050 for road and track, the P14 at 14 microns and 1,800 where dust governs, and PM186S F1-85 kept for a machine that actually competes.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air on the clean side, driven outwards, is the between-times service. When it asks for more, lukewarm water and a mild detergent will lift what remains; rinse until the water runs clear. Dry it right through in open air — never over heat, never near a flame — and refit it dry. Nothing is oiled at the finish, because the polyester never was. The maintenance sheet is kept in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Yamaha T-150, 2015 to 2026, and a direct replacement in the standard airbox. The same element is listed for six model names across that period; the full list is in the Fitment tab.
