The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Most MSX125s on this listing are recent machines, and a good number of them are still inside their factory warranty. That changes which question matters first. Before anything about microns and litres, an owner in that position wants to know whether the part leaves a mark: whether anything is cut, drilled, rerouted or reprogrammed, and whether the original can go back. For SM224S F1-85 the answer is that nothing is altered. The element occupies the space the original panel occupied, in the standard housing, held by the standard fixings, with the fuelling untouched — and the original goes back in the same minutes it came out.
Key Features
- Fits inside the standard airbox with nothing cut, drilled or rerouted
- No remapping required — the fuelling sees the housing it was calibrated with
- P08 F1-85 racing weave: 22 µm polyester threads, rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Dry polyester, never oiled, so no film reaches a sensor downstream
- Deep pleating fits considerably more cloth into the same volume
- Fully reversible, washable, and guaranteed for two years from purchase
Reversible, and worth keeping that way
Reversibility is not only a warranty argument; it is what makes a medium choice something other than a commitment. The standard SM224S and the finer SM224P14 use the same housing, so an owner who finds the racing cloth is the wrong end of the range for their riding is a few screws away from the right one. Keep the original panel rather than discarding it, note the change in the service record, and the intake stays a documented, undoable state instead of a mystery for whoever owns the bike next.
What the racing cloth actually does
It passes far more air: 15,000 l/m²/sec against 5,050 for the standard 80 µm element in the same box, and despite the 85 in its name it is not a looser cloth, holding back 95.22 % of 100-micron particles to the standard’s 93.13 %. On a 125 that flow is largely theoretical, because the engine cannot ask for what it does not have the capacity to use, while the closer maintenance a racing weave expects applies every week it is fitted. Fitting it makes sense where a machine is used competitively and inspected on an hours-based schedule. It does not make a standard MSX125 stronger, and this description will not suggest that it does.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air from the clean side outward is the routine for SM224S F1-85, so the load leaves through the surface that trapped it. Heavier deposits come out in hand-warm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until clear. Dry it in still air with no heat of any kind — no hairdryer, no exhaust, no flame — and refit it dry and untreated. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
SM224S F1-85 is listed for the Honda MSX125 from 2021 to 2026 and for the Grom over the same years. The machines built before that revision carry their own reference, so the build year decides rather than the model name. Check yours against the compatibility list on this page before ordering.
