Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Yamaha YZF-R25 (2014–2026) PM44S

The YZF-R25 and the YZF-R3 are the same motorcycle with different bores, and which of the two a country receives is decided by where its licence and tax rules put the 250 line. That works well enough until a service part is needed where the model was never officially sold, or until an imported machine reaches a workshop whose catalogue has never heard of it. The Sprint Filter P08 PM44S makes that a non-question. It is ordered by element code, it drops into the standard airbox, and once fitted it is not a part that has to be found again — it is washed and refitted for as long as the bike is kept.

A part code travels better than a model name

Consumables are the awkward part of owning a machine your own market does not list: nobody has one on the shelf, and the catalogue searches on a name it does not recognise. An element identified by its own code removes that step — the same PM44S covers the R25, the R3 and two further machines built around this airbox, whatever the badge on the tank says. And because it is cleaned rather than replaced, the supply question is answered once instead of at every service interval.

Dry polyester, and what the numbers describe

The P08 is a single woven layer spun from polyester threads of 22 microns and upwards, used dry from the first kilometre to the last. Oiled cotton gauze works differently: it makes the air sticky, which puts a consumable film immediately upstream of the throttle bodies and the sensors. Sprint Filter measured a four-layer oiled cotton filter retaining 76.42 per cent of 100-micron test particles, against 93.13 per cent for the dry P08. Finer media exist where conditions demand them — the water-repellent P037 at 37 microns, the P14 at 14 — and each step finer costs flow: 5,050 litres per square metre per second for the P08 against 4,500 and 1,800. Finer holds more and passes less. That is a trade, not a ranking, and for a road-going 250 the P08 sits at the sensible end of it.

Care and cleaning

Water is part of the routine, not a hazard: lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until it runs clear, when compressed air is not enough. Air comes first: blown from the clean side outwards, it settles most services. It then dries in the open, completely, with no heat and no flame, and is refitted dry. Nothing is oiled at any stage.
