Sprint Filter CM170S air filter

The facts.

DescriptionThe whole story▼

Some model names survive a search box and some do not. "11 1/2" is the second kind — a fraction where a number should be, unstable across every catalogue and forum it appears in. For a part that has to be matched exactly, that makes the code the identity: CM170S is the same element whatever a listing calls the machine it goes into, and this one code covers eleven Moto Morini models.

Key Features

  • Polyester weave with an 80-micron aperture; bench figure 5,050 l/m²/sec
  • Published retention: 93.13 % of particles sized at 100 microns
  • Supplied without oil and kept that way for its whole service life
  • Goes into the series airbox as it is — nothing trimmed, nothing recalibrated
  • Filtering area roughly double that of a conventional flat panel
  • A component to be serviced, not consumed; two-year warranty from purchase

Order by code, not by name

Eleven machines share this part number: the 11 1/2 alongside the Corsaro in four versions, both Granpassos, the Milano, the Rebello and the two Scramblers. They differ in bodywork, gearing, wheels and intent, and not at all in the box this element seals. The practical rule follows from that — check the code and the build years in the Fitment tab, and treat the model name as a label rather than a specification. It is also why the part is still made: eleven listings keep one number in production.

What a shared code does not mean

It does not make the machines equivalent, and it does not turn a filter into a tuning part on any of them. In an unmodified airbox the CM170S leaves a standard 11 1/2 exactly as strong as it was. What it changes is smaller and more durable: a lower intake restriction that stays lower across the service interval, no oil anywhere near the intake sensors, and one consumable removed from the maintenance list for as long as the bike is kept.

Care and cleaning

Servicing the CM170S is a short list. Blow it through from the clean side with the compressor, moving outwards; wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent when the air no longer shifts anything, and keep rinsing while the water still colours. What matters more than either step is the drying: room temperature, moving air, however long that takes. Anything warmer — a gun, a radiator, an engine bay — spoils the weave in ways that do not show. Refit it untreated. The Downloads tab carries the sheet.

Fitment & Compatibility

For the Moto Morini 11 1/2 built between 2013 and 2017, used in the standard airbox. Eleven machines of the 1200 range share this code — the Fitment tab lists them with their build years.
