Sixty-three millimetres with a rubber sleeve. The short spring in its road version.
Key Features
- Exhaust spring, 63 mm, with a rubber sleeve.
- The shorter of Spark's two spring lengths.
- Spark part number MOLLA07, made in Mantova, Italy.
Four Articles, Two Decisions
Spark's springs come in two lengths and two versions of each. The length is set by the gap between hooks once the joint is together; the sleeve is set by whether the machine is used on the road.
This is the short one with the sleeve — the combination most road builds end up needing somewhere.
Checking the Tension
Fitted correctly a spring should be visibly extended and should return with a snap when pulled and released. One that lies almost straight in place is doing nothing but rattling; one stretched until the coils separate has been permanently deformed and will not pull the joint closed again.
Replacing Rather Than Reusing
Springs are consumables. A set that has been on a system through several seasons of heat cycling has lost tension whether it looks it or not, and at five euro each there is no argument for reusing them after a rebuild.
Fitting
A proper spring hook, pulled rather than levered. Stainless marks permanently and always on the side that shows.
