DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Öhlins STX 46 Supersport shock absorber YA 967 is a purpose-engineered rear suspension unit for the Yamaha YZF-R3, drawing on decades of Öhlins racing heritage to deliver a level of ride quality and chassis composure that the standard unit simply cannot match. Its distinctive gold finish and forged aluminium construction signal serious intent before the bike even moves — this is suspension built to a standard, not a price.
Key Features
- 46 mm piston diameter ensures exceptional damping consistency and long-term durability across road and track use
- Gas-pressure damper with a fixed external reservoir maintains a stable oil temperature and prevents cavitation under sustained hard riding
- Independently adjustable compression and rebound damping lets you tailor the suspension character precisely to your riding style and road conditions
- Adjustable ride height gives you the ability to fine-tune chassis geometry for sharper turn-in or a more neutral balance
- Progressive spring rate of 170 N/mm delivers progressive support through the full stroke without sacrificing initial compliance
- Compact 277 mm body length and 40 mm stroke are matched exactly to the YZF-R3 chassis envelope — a direct, clean installation
Design, Finish and Heritage
Öhlins has supplied suspension to MotoGP, World Superbike and Isle of Man TT competitors for over four decades, and every road-going unit carries that engineering lineage. The STX 46 Supersport range translates that knowledge into a package that is both visually striking and technically refined. The external reservoir is not merely functional — its placement and finish speak to the Swedish manufacturer's commitment to precision manufacture, and on the compact frame of the YZF-R3 it reads as a genuine upgrade rather than an afterthought.
The spring part number for this unit is 61104-69, and Öhlins recommends installation by an authorised Öhlins Service Centre to ensure correct preload setting and to protect the unit's performance warranty. A full installation guide is included in the box.
Fitment and Compatibility
This shock absorber is designed exclusively for the Yamaha YZF-R3 across two distinct certification levels:
- Yamaha YZF-R3 (2017–2026) — supplied with ABE type approval for Germany; street-legal bolt-on fitment
- Yamaha YZF-R3 (2015–2016) — compatible fitment; no parts certificate (Teilegutachten) is included for German registration; please verify your local homologation requirements
Fitting and Setup Service
Öhlins recommends that its suspension is fitted by an authorised service centre. We are one, and we do the work here: installation, servicing and a proper setup. Ask us and we will include it with the order.
