Fitted to the Dyna Super Glide Custom FXDC

Öhlins covers the 9-year production run of this generation with a single part number, which means the mounting and the linkage stayed unchanged across it. Short travel and substantial mass are a hard combination: there is little room to absorb anything, so damping quality matters more.

About the STX 36 Blackline Range

The finish suits classic and retro machines where chrome and black dominate. The STX 36 in Blackline finish: black anodised body, black spring, 36 mm damping piston. Twin-shock applications are supplied as a matched pair.

Materials and Manufacture

Two units carrying the same part number behave the same way out of the box, which is the whole point of testing each one. Öhlins manufactures in Upplands Väsby, north of Stockholm, and assembles and tests every unit there before it ships. The damper body is hard-anodised aluminium, which resists both corrosion and the thermal cycling a rear shock lives with.

Damping and Adjustment

66 mm of stroke is what the Dyna Super Glide Custom FXDC's linkage allows, and the shim stack is set for exactly that. Spring rate is 33 N/mm as delivered, which sets static sag for a rider of typical weight. With 305 +10/-0 mm on offer, rear ride height can be raised to sharpen turn-in or dropped to calm the Dyna Super Glide Custom FXDC down. Öhlins identifies the spring as 00281-73 or 66419-032. The two adjusters do genuinely separate jobs, which is what makes methodical setup possible. Compression and rebound are adjusted independently, so support under load can be set without changing how fast the wheel returns.

Fitment and Compatibility

What follows applies to the Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide Custom FXDC built 2007–2015, which is the machine HD 762 is listed for. It is model-specific rather than universal: length, stroke and valving are all set for this chassis.

Road Approval

Road approval: ABE (Germany). The unit is covered by a German ABE for the Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide Custom FXDC, so no individual inspection or entry in the vehicle documents is required. The approval document ships with the product.
