DescriptionThe whole story▼

Mountain passes suit a roadster like the BMW R 1200 R, and they are also where the clutch earns its place. A tight uphill hairpin can bring the speed down so far that even first gear feels tall, and the smooth way round is a touch of slip at the clutch while the throttle stays steady. Accossato's ESC075, milled from aluminium and anodised, is the clutch lever for the R 1200 R of 2015 to 2019 that lets you decide how far it sits from the grip.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the BMW R 1200 R of 2015 to 2019
  • Fits the roadster's original clutch mounting
  • Distance to the grip adjustable
  • Standard length in all seven colours; short and long in selected ones
  • Machined from solid aluminium, anodised
  • Black hub with a coloured blade
  • Rigid blade, no folding joint
  • No German ABE documented; offered for track use

Construction and Material Quality

Each ESC075 is shaped from a solid aluminium blank on CNC machines and anodised afterwards. The hub, containing the pivot and the adjuster, is black in every version; the blade can be black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green. A machined lever has sharp, consistent contours, and a rigid one has no hinge to introduce play into the clutch action. The anodised layer is hard and integral to the aluminium, so it withstands the wear of a glove sliding over it thousands of times a season.

Hairpins and Mountain Passes

On a pass with a long ladder of switchbacks, the left hand falls into a rhythm: clutch in for the downshift before the bend, a moment of slip through the tightest part, clutch out as the road straightens. Over an hour of climbing, that rhythm is repeated again and again, and a lever that sits too far away tires the forearm long before the summit. Moving the blade a little closer lets the fingers stay curled and relaxed around it.

Length changes the effort. A long blade, available in blue, green and orange, puts the fingers further from the pivot and makes the pull lighter, which many riders appreciate on a long climb. The short blade, in blue, gold and green, lets two fingers do the work while the others keep a firm hold on the bar as the R 1200 R leans into the next bend. Black, red and silver are made as standard-length levers.

Fitment and Compatibility

On Accossato's list, the ESC075 covers the R 1200 R from 2015 to 2019, the liquid-cooled roadster. The matching EDB077 brake lever is listed for the same years. Air/oil-cooled R 1200 R models from before 2015 are not included, and the R 1200 RS, although closely related, is listed with a different clutch lever.

Road Approval

The ESC075 lacks a documented German ABE, which limits it to track use in our shop.
