DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Leatt Knee Guard 6.0 Evo brings Level 2 impact protection into a slim pad. It is certified to EN 1621-1:2012 at the higher of the two performance levels, yet it is built as a low-profile sleeve that disappears under race pants rather than a bulky hard-shell guard.
The combination behind it is 3DF soft impact foam with a perforated, flexible hard shell on top. Separated sliders on the inside let the guard flex with the knee, which is what makes Level 2 bearable for a full day on the bike.
Key Features
- Certified to EN 1621-1:2012 Level 2 for the knee
- 3DF AirFit soft foam under a perforated flexible hard shell
- Hard cap that slides on impact instead of gripping
- Separated internal sliders for flex and natural movement
- MoistureCool and Deflexion fabric sleeve
- All protective materials perforated
- Anti-slip calf band
- Leatt protection score of 20 points (manufacturer rating)
Protection and certification
EN 1621-1 defines two levels for limb protectors, and the 6.0 Evo meets Level 2, the stricter one, in the 2012 edition of the standard. In practical terms that means the guard transmits less force in the standard drop test than a Level 1 protector of the same type.
Leatt rates the guard at 20 points on its in-house protection score. That figure is the manufacturer's own system and sits above the soft 3DF 5.0 Evo models in Leatt's scale.
Shell and impact layer
Directly on the knee the 6.0 Evo uses 3DF soft impact foam, which stays supple until it is hit. On top sits a flexible hard shell that is perforated for airflow and acts as a hard cap; a hard surface helps the guard slide across the ground in a crash instead of catching.
Inside, the slider panels are separated rather than one rigid piece. Leatt says this allows maximum flex and comfort, so the knee can bend freely through the full riding range.
Sleeve and ventilation
The sleeve combines MoistureCool, a wicking fabric, with Deflexion for durability. All protection materials are perforated, so air reaches the skin through foam and shell. An anti-slip calf band holds the lower end in position.
Fit and sizing
Five single sizes, S through XXL, are available. Because the design is low profile, the 6.0 Evo is suited to riders who want serious knee protection without changing pant size, and Leatt positions it for all-day wear.
Choosing between Leatt knee guards
If you are deciding between the 6.0 Evo and Leatt's soft 3DF 5.0 Evo, the key differences are the certification level and the shell. The 6.0 Evo reaches Level 2 and carries a perforated hard shell, the 3DF 5.0 Evo is a Level 1 soft guard without one. Leatt's own scores reflect that: 20 points for the 6.0 Evo against 16 for the 3DF 5.0 Evo. In weight they are close, with Leatt stating 440 g and 486 g per pair.
What you should know
The 6.0 Evo protects the knee; it does not support ligaments and has no hinges, so it is not a replacement for a knee brace. Leatt does not mention shin coverage for this model, so do not expect protection lower down the leg. The hard shell is flexible but still firmer than a pure foam pad, so give it a few rides to settle.
Colour
In black the perforated hard cap blends with the sleeve into one dark, discreet unit. Scuffs from crashes or knee-gripping show as lighter marks over time, which is normal on a working protector and tells you where it has done its job.
