Sprint Filter PM174P14 air filter

The facts.

DescriptionThe whole story▼

An element is only half of a filter. The other half is the box around it and the seal where the two meet, and air has no loyalty to the medium: it takes whatever path costs it the least. If that path runs past the edge of the element instead of through it, the rating on the box stops describing anything real. This is worth stating on a Street Cup precisely because the Sprint Filter P14 PM174P14 is the fine medium of the range — 14 microns of retention against the standard P08's 80 — and a finer medium means a slightly larger pressure difference across the element, which is a slightly larger invitation for unfiltered air to go around it.

Key Features

  • Sits in the standard airbox in place of the original element: no modification, no remap, homologation untouched
  • Dry non-woven medium, unoiled, with nothing that can travel to sensors or throttle bodies
  • 14 microns of retention, at an air flow of 1,800 l/m²/sec
  • Roughly double the filtering surface found in other performance filters
  • Washable and reusable; compressed air from the clean side is the whole service
  • Two years of warranty from purchase, on an element built to last the motorcycle's life

Fitting it properly is part of the specification

Seat the element square in its location so the sealing face lies flat all the way round, with no edge folded under and no corner sitting proud. Put the cover back without twisting it, and draw its fasteners down evenly rather than one at a time to full tightness, so the lid pulls square. Check that nothing has been trapped on the sealing line. Then close the box. Five careful minutes protect the whole reason for buying a fine element, and a fine element that is bypassed filters no better than no element at all.

Is the fine medium the right one for a Street Cup

Sometimes not. The Street Cup is the sharpest-postured machine on this airbox, with low bars and an owner who tends to ride it in short, committed bursts on dry days. If a meaningful share of your riding is spent high in the rev range, or if the bike sees track days, then the P08 is the medium that suits it and the P14 is a deliberate step away from airflow that you would rather keep. The P14 earns its place on the Street Cup that also does the ordinary work: traffic, commuting, summer dust that never looks like dust. There the finer barrier costs you flow you were not using and buys retention in exactly the particle sizes that reach a bore.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air is the service: clean side, working outwards, then the PM174P14 goes back in dry. A dirty season is a job for lukewarm water and a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear. After that, open air: it must be dry through before refitting, and heat and flame are never part of getting it there. It is never oiled. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

Made for the Triumph Street Cup from 2017 to 2026. The same element covers five machines built around this airbox, which keeps it a stocked part rather than a niche one. The full list is in the Fitment tab.
