A fine element in dirty air fills up sooner, and that follows directly from what it is for. Anything rated at 14 microns holds back material a coarser medium would have passed straight through, and everything held is sitting in the mat afterwards. So the honest description of the P14 on an SRT 600 SX is not a filter you think about less often. It is a filter you will have the airbox lid off for more often — and one that costs nothing but a few minutes when you do.
Key Features
- Dry special nonwoven, 14 microns of filtration at a rated 1,800 l/m²/sec
- Cleaned and refitted rather than replaced, however often the interval comes round
- Goes into the standard SRT 600 SX airbox with nothing cut and no remapping
- Roughly twice the filtering area of an ordinary performance element
- No oil to apply after a wash, so the panel is back in the box the same afternoon
- Two years of warranty; the element is specified to last the life of the bike
More servicing, not less
Any rated flow figure describes a medium clean. From the first ride onwards the material loads, restriction climbs, and the finer the medium the sooner that becomes worth attending to in dusty use. With a disposable panel that curve ends in a purchase, which is exactly why it tends to be left running longer than it should be. With a washable one it ends at an air line, so there is no reason to put it off — and the element returns to its own starting condition each time rather than to an approximation of it.
What the fineness costs
It costs flow, and the figure is not hidden: 1,800 l/m²/sec, roughly a third of what the woven element in this housing is rated to pass. That is the exchange every filtration medium lives inside, and paying it is the point rather than a side effect. Being equally plain in the other direction: a drop-in element does not make a standard SRT 600 SX noticeably quicker, and a fine one spends intake headroom instead of finding any. What it does is put a defined specification between the road and the inlet, and let you restore that specification with an air line whenever the interval falls due.
Care and cleaning
Servicing is an air line and a few minutes. Direct it at the downstream face and move it steadily across, so what the mat caught travels back out rather than further in. If a wet spell has left something air will not lift, hand-warm water with a little mild detergent will, rinsed until the water runs clean. Then let it dry in the open at its own pace — heat of any kind damages the material — and refit the PM209P14 dry, with nothing added. The maintenance sheet is under Downloads.
