Set the two specifications side by side and the racing cloth reads like a step backwards. The standard P08 weave opens at 80 microns, this F1-85 at 85, and coarser is supposed to mean more gets through. The measured figures say otherwise: 95.22 % of 100-micron particles held here against 93.13 % for the P08. Worth knowing why the two do not contradict each other, because the misreading — racing element, less protection — talks owners out of this part.
Key Features
- One dry layer of woven polyester, oil-free by design — nothing travels to the sensors
- Racing F1-85 specification: 85 µm of filtration at 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Holds 95.22 % of 100-micron particles in Sprint Filter's own measurement
- Around double the working surface of other performance elements
- A straight swap for the paper panel in the standard airbox, no modification and no remapping
- Serviced with air rather than replaced; two years of warranty from purchase
Why a coarser weave can still hold more
A micron figure describes an opening; retention is a percentage measured across a whole element under airflow. Not the same statement. This one carries roughly twice the filtering surface of other performance filters, so the air spreads thin across it instead of being forced hard through any one patch. Dirt is caught by the fabric it meets at low local speed as much as by the size of the gap, which is how 85 microns reaches a higher measured retention than 80. What the F1-85 costs you is therefore not protection. It costs roughly two and a half times what the P08 costs in the same airbox.
What the money actually buys
Flow: 15,000 l/m²/sec against 5,050. That reserve turns into something only if demand approaches the medium's ceiling, which on a 636 means the upper rev range, held there, lap after lap. A rider who spends the year on the road never reaches the condition and has paid for a ceiling nobody touches. And where it is reached, keep the claim honest: a drop-in element does not make a standard ZX6R Ninja ABS noticeably stronger, because a filter returns only the restriction it caused itself. Across the rest of the range the usual relationship holds — the P037 at 37 µm and 4,500 l/m²/sec, the P14 at 14 µm and 1,800 — each finer step buying retention and spending flow.
Care and cleaning
The PM92S F1-85 is cleaned dry. Compressed air from the clean side, blown outwards, sends the dirt back the way it came and covers a normal service. After a wet weekend, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear, then let it dry through in open air. Never use heat or a flame — polyester survives neither — and always refit it dry. No oil is involved at any stage. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the standard airbox of the Kawasaki ZX6R Ninja ABS, 636 cc, 2013 to 2026. Two machines share this element; the other is the ZX6R/ABS of the same years, both listed in the Fitment tab. Order by the element code rather than the name on the tank; the same airbox is also offered with the P08 cloth.
