Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Suzuki V-Strom 1000 (2014–2019) PM253S

Suzuki stopped building the V-Strom 1000 in 2019, and the bikes still on the road are now in the part of their life where servicing decides everything. Most are with a second or third owner, the history part documented and part guesswork, and dealer shelves have long since gone over to the 1050 that replaced it. The Sprint Filter P08 PM253S answers one line of that schedule differently: instead of a paper cartridge that has to be ordered, waited for and binned, the airbox gets an element that is washed and put back. It will not make the big V-twin stronger — nothing inside an airbox does — but it takes a consumable off the list of things that can be out of stock.

A wear part that outlives the catalogue

Parts for a discontinued model do not vanish; they get slower, and then dearer. Years after the last V-Strom 1000 left the line an air filter is still the cheapest item on a service list — but only while somebody stocks it. A washable element turns the question of who has one on the shelf into the question of when you last cleaned yours. Sprint Filter builds the P08 to last the life of the motorcycle and covers it for two years from purchase, which leaves an owner planning another decade on an ageing V-Strom one fewer line that depends on a stockroom somewhere else.

Dry polyester, and what the figures mean

The P08 is a single layer of woven polyester, spun from threads of 22 microns and upwards, and it works dry: no tacky film sitting upstream of the throttle bodies, and no oil that can find its way onto an air-flow sensor. Sprint Filter's own comparison has the dry P08 holding 93.13 per cent of 100-micron test particles against 76.42 per cent for four-layer oiled cotton. Where the air is harder the range weaves finer — P037 at 37 microns, P14 at 14, T12 at 7 — and every step finer costs flow: the P08 passes 5,050 litres per square metre per second, the P14 only 1,800. That is a trade, not a ranking.

Care and cleaning

The routine service is compressed air from the clean side outwards, repeated as often as you like. When air alone will not do, the PM253S washes in lukewarm water with a mild detergent — rinse until the water runs clear. Drying is done in open air, never with heat and never with a flame, and the element goes back in dry. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
