On a fully faired supersport the element is never the awkward part of the job — reaching it is. The airbox of a GSX-R600 lives under the fuel tank, which has to come up and be propped before anything can be lifted out of it. That is why the filter is the item most often left until the tank is off anyway. A Sprint Filter P08 PM122S does not shorten that path, and it will not make a standard GSX-R600 noticeably stronger — nothing dropped into a standard airbox does. It changes what the trip in there is worth: the element comes out, gets blown through and goes straight back.
Key Features
- Single-layer woven polyester, run dry — no oil to travel down onto the intake sensors
- 80 µm of filtration at a flow of 5,050 l/m²/sec, the standard road and track specification
- Polyester thread from ø 22 microns upwards, with the opening set by the weave, not by pressed pulp
- Roughly twice the working cloth of the usual performance element, so a dust load covers a smaller share of it
- Takes the paper panel's place in the standard airbox: nothing cut, nothing rerouted, no remap
- Washed and refitted instead of binned, and covered by Sprint Filter for two years from purchase
When the visit is the expensive part
Because the tank has to be lifted, opening this airbox is planned rather than casual, and a planned job only pays off if it can be finished on the day. With a paper panel that depends on whether a spare is on the shelf; without one you look, learn nothing you can act on, and close it up again to order a part. A washable element removes that dependency. The airbox is open, the air line is already on the bench, and the element that goes back in is the one you took out — clean. The next inspection is then set by what you actually saw in there, not by a mileage printed in a service book.
Dry polyester, and what the figures mean
The P08 is one layer of woven polyester and it works dry: no tacky film ahead of the throttle bodies, and nothing that can migrate onto an air-flow sensor. Sprint Filter's own comparison has the dry P08 holding 93.13 per cent of 100-micron test particles against 76.42 per cent for four-layer oiled cotton. Where the air is harder the range weaves finer — P037 at 37 µm and 4,500 l/m²/sec, P14 at 14 µm and 1,800, T12 at 7 µm and 560 — and every step finer is bought with flow. That is a trade set by the air a bike breathes, not a ladder with a best rung.
Care and cleaning
The routine service is compressed air, held against the clean face so the dirt leaves the way it came. When air alone will not shift it, the PM122S washes in lukewarm water with a mild detergent — rinse until the water runs clear. It then dries in moving air at its own pace, never with a heat gun, a radiator or a flame — heat ruins polyester. It goes back in dry and untreated. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the standard airbox of the Suzuki GSX-R600 built from 2011 to 2026. Two machines share this element: this one and the GSX-R750 of the same years. Both are listed in the Fitment tab.
