Whoever services this motorcycle will open the airbox on schedule regardless of what is inside it. The lid comes off, the panel comes out, something goes back in and the lid is refitted. The labour is identical either way; what differs is whether a part leaves the building in a bin. A PM155S turns that fixed piece of work into a clean-and-refit, and goes on doing so for as long as the Vitpilen exists.

The same hour, spent differently
A workshop hour is a workshop hour. Taking out a paper panel and fitting another involves the same movements as taking out a polyester one, blowing it through and putting it back — the second version simply ends with the part still in the bike. Across the years a Vitpilen is likely to be kept, that adds up to a service line which never appears again and a small pile of discarded pleated paper which never exists. Neither is dramatic. Both are real.
What to tell the workshop
Say that the element is washable and must not be thrown away, because the natural reflex is to bin whatever comes out of an airbox. Ask for compressed air from the clean side outwards, which is the only step that can be done wrong. If the panel is genuinely filthy it can be washed, but it has to be completely dry before it is refitted, so on a service day it is usually simpler to blow it through and wash it later at home. And no oil: this medium works dry, and a treated panel is a spoiled one.
Care and cleaning
At home the routine takes minutes. Air across the clean face, dust leaving the far side, panel back in. Water only when air has stopped making a difference — warm, faintly soapy, rinsed thoroughly, then dried in air alone with no heat and no flame anywhere near it. One thing this element never needs is a performance claim: it does not make the Vitpilen stronger, it keeps the intake restriction low and repeatable.
