Read to the end of this fitment list and there is a Husqvarna on it. Neither error nor coincidence: BMW owned Husqvarna while the Nuda was developed, and gave it a bored-out version of the F platform's parallel twin, breathing through the same box as the F 800 R. Munich sold the Swedish name on in 2013, yet the parts list still records the arrangement — a filter is defined by the housing it seals into, and housings outlive company structures.
Key Features
- A single woven layer of polyester, run dry: no oil applied when new, none applied later
- The P08 numbers are 80 µm of aperture at a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec, intended for road and track
- Fibre gauge from ø 22 microns; what the air passes through is the weave, not the thread itself
- Near enough double the cloth of other performance elements, held in the unmodified frame
- Exchanged straight for the factory panel — no housing changes and no fuelling changes
- Washed and used again for the life of the machine, with two years of cover from the date of purchase
What a fitment list is really a record of
Ten machines take this element, and they were never a model range: a pair of faired sports-tourers from 2006, two GS models and an Adventure, the naked R, the later GT, two 650-badged bikes and that Husqvarna. Nothing joins them but a shared middleweight platform and the box bolted to it. Read the other way round, the list warns against an inference as well. A common airbox tells you that intake volume and sealing face agree; it says nothing about wheels, frames, fuelling or output.
The longest entry on the list
The R's own line runs from 2009 to 2026, the widest span of anything here, and across all of it the cloth has not changed: one dry layer, an aperture of 80 µm, a rated 5,050 l/m²/sec, close to twice the filtering surface of other performance elements in the standard frame. The promise attached to it stays equally modest. A standard F 800 R gains nothing measurable in output, because a panel dropped into a homologated airbox has never given any motorcycle that. What it gives is a low intake resistance that can be restored on a bench, and a part that is serviced instead of reordered.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air does the ordinary work on the PM35S: nozzle to the clean face, blowing outward, until nothing further comes away. Where a season of wet roads has left a film, hand-warm water with a mild detergent shifts it, rinsed until the water runs clear. After that the element wants air and patience only — heat guns, radiators and naked flame each finish a polyester weave for good — and it is fitted dry. The manufacturer's maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the BMW F 800 R from 2009 to 2026, replacing the standard element inside an unmodified airbox. Ten entries across two manufacturers share this part; note that the F 800 GS among them is the 2007 to 2018 model, not the machine that revived the name for 2023. Each listing appears with its own model years in the Fitment tab.
