DescriptionThe whole story

The Puig R-Racer windscreen for the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 (2017–2023) carries full ABE type approval (ABE 38182) and TÜV certification, making it one of the very few race-derived screens you can fit and ride legally on public roads without a second thought. Born directly from Puig's involvement in MotoGP and WorldSBK, it delivers genuine racing aerodynamics in a road-legal package.

Key Features

  • ABE 38182 type approval and TÜV certification — fully road-legal across Europe
  • 60 mm taller than the OEM screen, substantially reducing wind pressure on the helmet and upper body
  • Improved aerodynamic coefficient (Cx) developed in a virtual wind tunnel, directing airflow up over the helmet and past the shoulders
  • Greater stability at top speed and under hard braking
  • 3 mm impact-resistant PMMA acrylic with edges rounded to less than 2 mm for safety compliance
  • UV-resistant and scratch-resistant optical-quality acrylic with distortion-free vision, verified during quality control in Barcelona
  • Plug-and-play installation in approximately 10–15 minutes — no drilling, no additional parts

Certified for the Road, Engineered for the Track

What separates the R-Racer from many aftermarket screens is its regulatory credentials. The ABE 38182 approval and independent TÜV verification mean it meets the strict optical distortion, edge-radius and impact standards required for road use in Germany and across Europe. Riders who use their GSX-R on track days and public roads alike gain the aerodynamic advantage without compromising their insurance cover or roadworthiness.

The screen's shape was refined in a virtual wind tunnel: the raised profile guides airflow deliberately upward over the helmet and laterally past the rider's shoulders and chest. The result is a noticeably calmer cockpit, reduced fatigue on fast A-roads and motorway runs, and more consistent control when the GSX-R 1000 is being pushed hard through corners or decelerated from high speed.

Materials and Puig Quality

Every R-Racer screen is pressed from 3 mm PMMA acrylic — the same grade of impact-resistant optical plastic Puig has refined over decades of motorsport screen production. Edges are machined to under 2 mm radius, satisfying both the safety standard and the clean visual line that complements the GSX-R 1000's aggressive front end. Each piece passes an individual optical inspection before despatch from Puig's Barcelona facility to ensure zero distortion in the rider's primary sight line.

The elevated profile adds meaningful wind protection without altering the silhouette of the GSX-R 1000 beyond recognition — the R-Racer design language is aggressive and purposeful, not bulky.

Installation

Fitting follows the same procedure as the original screen: the R-Racer uses the factory mounting points, requires no drilling and needs no supplementary brackets or hardware. Estimated fitting time is approximately 10–15 minutes. An installation guide, a comparative study and an aerodynamic analysis are included in the packaging.
