DescriptionThe whole story▼
Öhlins builds this STX 36 Classic MX shock at 380.5 mm for classic motocross bikes, where the length decides the fit rather than a model name. Measure with the steering straight and at both locks to confirm the stroke is sufficient.
Key Features
- Sold without a vehicle-specific mount
- Part number CC 718
- Spring rate prog.15-28 N/mm
- Length 380.5 mm
- Stroke 107 mm
Function
Classic frames sometimes need spacers or bushings adapted to modern mounting eyes. Measuring the swingarm travel helps confirm the shock length. The shock body is styled to suit the look of an older machine. Service includes oil, seals and a check of the shaft surface. The mounting eyes must match the bolt diameter of the frame and swingarm.
Choosing the Right Size
If you are unsure whether it fits, send us the measurements and we will check. The same stroke can suit very different motorcycles, depending on where it is mounted. When in doubt, a photograph of the front of the motorcycle helps us advise. A unit that is slightly longer than needed is safer than one that runs out of stroke. The 380.5 mm length must match the frame, otherwise ride height and geometry change.
Maintenance
Replacing the shocks is often the most noticeable single upgrade on a classic bike. A heavier rider may need a firmer spring than the one supplied.
Road Approval
Road approval: none. The shocks are built for classic motocross; public-road use is a matter for an individual inspection.
