What It Is
There is no measurement to check here — the number and the exploded view identify it. Replacing a piston is a workshop job because the shim stack has to be rebuilt in the correct order. Valves and needles set the adjustable part of the damping; the piston sets the rest. Port area and shim seat geometry decide the damping curve before any adjuster is touched.

Öhlins numbers do not follow a logic you can guess — always read them from the documentation. The exploded drawing for your unit names the number; if you do not have it, we do.
How to Be Sure It Fits
Part number 05657-02 is unambiguous; the description alone is not, because Öhlins uses similar wording across sizes. Where no measurement is given, the drawing position is what identifies the part. A worn piston band lets oil past the outside of the piston, which shows up as damping that has gone soft. Öhlins uses a piston band rather than metal-to-metal contact, which is what keeps the bore intact.
