The R nineT uses the same left-hand switch architecture as BMW's sports models. The JP PLS 008 replaces the moulded original with a unit milled from Ergal 7075.

Modern Electrics, Old-Fashioned Looks
The R nineT's cockpit is deliberately sparse: round dials, a minimum of plastic, nothing that suggests the year it was built. The one component that gives the game away is the switchgear, which is shared with the sports range and looks it. Replacing it with machined aluminium is one of the few changes that makes the bike look more period rather than less.
A Simpler Control Set Than Its Siblings
Because the R nineT has no TFT screen and no ride modes to navigate, the left cluster carries fewer functions than the same architecture does on an S1000RR. Indicators, horn and beam, and that is largely it. Fewer buttons means each one can be larger and better separated, which suits a bike often ridden in unlined leather gloves.
Built to Survive a Boxer
An air-cooled twin of this size vibrates in a way that loosens things. The milled housing clamps with a threaded fastener rather than snapping together, and the switch elements are sealed units rather than exposed contacts. On a motorcycle whose whole appeal is that it can be maintained by its owner, parts that stay tight are not a small consideration.
Which Finish Suits a Retro Bike
Black and titanium sit quietly against brushed aluminium and painted steel. Red and blue are available and work on the Racer and the sportier Urban variants, though on a Pure or a Scrambler they tend to be the loudest thing in the cockpit. The anodising runs through the surface, so a knock does not leave a bright scar.
