DescriptionThe whole story▼
Water finds the places grease has left. A morning of stream crossings puts the whole cockpit of a 250XCF-W under the surface more than once, and while the engine is built for it, the small bearing surfaces at the ends of the handlebar are not really thinking about anything except staying lubricated. What happens afterwards decides whether the controls last a season or a decade. Accossato lists the AGD316 for this model from 2014 to 2016, a silver front brake lever in the original form.
Key Features
- Front brake lever in the original form for the KTM 250XCF-W
- Accossato's entry runs from 2014 to 2016
- Silver
- Right-hand side, front brake
- One of Accossato's original spare parts types
- Accossato says the manufacturing process improves resistance after damage
- One lever per pack
- No approval documents held; for racing and competition
Construction and Material Quality
This is a replacement rather than an improvement, and it is described as such. The AGD316 copies the form of the brake lever the 250XCF-W was delivered with, which is what allows it to work with the existing perch and master cylinder and to leave the bike looking as it did. Accossato groups it with its original spare parts types, a programme aimed at value for money, and reports that the way these levers are produced gives them more resistance after damage or a collision. The listed colour for this bike is silver. No material and no measurements are published by the maker, and none are guessed at here.
After the Water Crossing
Riding through water does no harm at the time and a great deal afterwards if the bike is simply parked wet. The pivot of a lever is a plain bearing with a small clearance, and once the grease has been washed out of it the bore starts to wear every time the blade moves, which on a long ride means thousands of movements before anyone thinks about it. Silt makes it worse, because fine sand carried in river water behaves like a grinding paste. The routine after a wet day is short. Rinse the mud off with a gentle flow rather than a jet, let the bike drain, then take both levers off, dry the bolts and the bores, and grease them again before refitting. Look at each bolt while it is out: a shank that has gone rough is a sign that water and grit have already been at work and it costs very little to replace. Check the blades for play at the pivot by holding the end and moving it sideways, because a worn bore shows up there first. The same visit is a good moment to look at the perch clamps and make sure they still hold position. A 250XCF-W that is used where there is water will go through this a dozen times a year, and the owners whose controls still feel crisp after five seasons are the ones who treat it as part of the ride rather than as maintenance.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the AGD316 for the 250XCF-W from 2014 to 2016, and the clutch side of the same machine is covered by the AGS14 from 2006 to 2016, so both ends of the bar are catalogued with one code each and there is nothing ambiguous to resolve. The brake entry is shared with a long list of related machines, among them the Husqvarna FE 250, the Husqvarna FS 450 and the Husqvarna TC 125 in our catalogue. As a tuning alternative, Accossato lists the CNC levers B8283 and C7283 for this bike.
Road Approval
Accossato supplied no approval paperwork for the AGD316, which means that neither a German ABE nor a test mark can be stated, and we list the part for racing and competition.
