DescriptionThe whole story▼

Long before the R6 wore its current styling, the PP001 rear axle sliders were already a familiar fitment across Yamaha's supersport, and the code has survived on Accossato's list for the R6 of 2001 to 2015 precisely because so many owners of that generation still ride and race them today. A rear tyre that spins up exiting a hairpin, on a track or a damp back road, remains one of the more common ways an older R6 ends up sliding rather than simply running on. Accossato lists the PP001 rear axle sliders for the R6 across those years.

Key Features

  • Rear axle sliders for the Yamaha R6, 2001 to 2015
  • Accossato PP001, a left and a right protector
  • Aluminium and plastic construction, black
  • Spacers, screws and remaining mounting parts in the kit, as stated by Accossato
  • PF013/PF046 front sliders and TP004/TP109 crash pads also listed for this bike
  • Sacrificial parts, renewed after a heavy impact
  • Same pair listed for the Aprilia RSV4, BMW S1000 R, S1000 RR and S1000 XR, and Suzuki GSX-R 1000 and 750
  • No German ABE documented; offered for racing

Construction and Material Quality

Aluminium and plastic together form both black PP001 protectors, one sized for the left and one for the right side at the rear of the R6. According to Accossato, the kit also holds the spacers, the screws and whatever else the fitting needs. Should a rear tyre spinning up out of a hairpin develop into a genuine slide, these sliders sit ready to meet the ground ahead of the swingarm and the rear axle area, absorbing some of what those parts would otherwise take. A slider that has clearly done that job should not be reused; fit a fresh one instead.

Spinning Up Out of a Hairpin

A tight hairpin asks a rider to get back on the throttle earlier than feels natural, and on an older R6 without the electronic aids that later bikes take for granted, that throttle input has to be judged entirely by feel. Too much power applied before the bike is fully upright, especially on a track surface still cool from the morning or a back road slick with recent rain, can spin the rear tyre faster than the chassis can absorb, and the resulting slide sometimes develops too quickly to catch. These moments rarely feel violent from the saddle, more a sudden loss of composure than a crash, but the bike can still go down hard enough to mark the sliders badly. After any such off, check the rear sliders, the chain and the swingarm before riding or racing again.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato's list gives the PP001 for the R6 across 2001 to 2015, and our listing matches that. At the front, either the PF013 or the newer PF046 sliders apply depending on year, and the TP004 and TP109 crash pads cover the fairing. In our shop, the PP001 additionally covers the Aprilia RSV4, the BMW S1000 R, S1000 RR and S1000 XR, and the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 and GSX-R 750. Please compare your R6 with the application list before ordering, or ask us to check it.

Road Approval

No ABE or test mark has been supplied to us for the PP001, so we list it for racing and competition purposes.
