DescriptionThe whole story▼
The CB1100EX is a bike for unhurried riding, and unhurried riding in the real world includes plenty of waiting: at traffic lights, at level crossings, in a queue at road works. Every one of those pauses raises an old question: hold the clutch in, or select neutral? The answer is easier when the lever itself is comfortable to hold. Accossato's ESH033 is a clutch lever for the CB1100EX of 2014 to 2019, whose reach can be adjusted and whose blade is offered in three lengths.
Key Features
- Replacement clutch lever for the Honda CB1100EX, 2014 to 2019
- Fitted at the original clutch mounting
- Adjuster near the pivot sets the distance to the grip
- Long blade for lower effort; standard about 138 mm; short for two fingers
- Blade anodised in one of seven colours, hub black
- Machined from aluminium, fixed rather than folding
- Sold for track use (no German ABE documented)
Construction and Material Quality
Anodised aluminium, shaped on CNC machines: that sums up the ESH033. The anodising is split between a black hub and a blade in the colour you choose, and the hub is where the lever pivots and where its reach is set. From there to the tip, the blade is one continuous, rigid piece. On the CB1100EX, whose clutch is worked at every pause of a relaxed ride, that rigidity means the lever feels the same whether it is held for two seconds or two minutes.
Neutral or Clutch In?
Riding instructors tend to recommend staying in first gear with the clutch pulled while you are the last vehicle in the queue, so that you can move off at once if something comes up behind you. Once a few cars have stopped behind you, or at a long red light, many riders select neutral and rest the hand. Both habits have their place, and both are made easier by a lever that suits you. Holding a clutch for a whole red phase is tiring when the blade sits at the limit of your reach, and the temptation is to let it creep out, which makes the clutch slip and can leave you lurching when the lights change. Set the ESH033 so that you can hold it fully against the grip with a relaxed hand, and choose the long blade if you want the lowest effort, since the extra length puts your fingers further from the pivot. Going the other way, finding neutral on the CB1100EX is usually easiest just before the bike stops, while it is still rolling slightly.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the CB1100EX of 2014 to 2019, the ESH033 replaces the lever at the original clutch mounting. Accossato's list names a longer period, but the EX reached Europe with the 2014 model year, which is why this product begins there. Accossato gives the same clutch lever for the standard CB1100 and the RS, and the brake lever to match on the EX is the EDF018. Blades in blue, gold, green and orange are made in all three lengths, silver as standard or short, black and red only in the standard length.
Road Approval
No German ABE could be documented for the ESH033. It is therefore sold for use on the circuit.
