DescriptionThe whole story▼
Everything that makes the Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa so fast in a straight line hands extra work to the front brake at the end of one. The second generation, with its larger engine and sharper lines, kept the original recipe of a long, heavy and aerodynamic machine that many owners use to cover great distances quickly. The Accossato EDF041 is a replacement front brake lever for the Hayabusa of 2013 to 2020. Machined from aluminium and anodised, it brings an adjustable distance to the grip and a choice of three blade lengths.
Key Features
- Replaces the front brake lever of the Hayabusa, model years 2013 to 2020
- Fits the original master cylinder
- Adjustable distance between blade and grip
- Long blade for more leverage in blue, gold, green or orange
- Short blade for two-finger braking in blue, gold, green, orange or silver
- Standard length approximately 138 mm, available in all seven colours
- Machined aluminium, anodised; black hub and a fixed one-piece blade
Construction and Material Quality
A hard stop from high speed loads a brake lever more than any other moment on the road, and that is where construction shows. The EDF041 is cut from aluminium on CNC machines and has no hinge anywhere along the blade: pressure from the fingers passes through a single rigid part to the master cylinder, so the lever feels the same at the end of a long stop as it did at the start. After machining, it is anodised in two tones. The hub, where the pivot and the reach adjuster sit, is black on every version, and the blade carries the colour you have chosen.
Braking From High Speed
Slowing a heavy motorcycle from motorway pace is a sequence rather than a single action. First comes a light, early touch that takes up the free travel and lets the fork begin to compress; only then does the pressure build, steadily, as the speed falls away. Snatching at the lever skips the first stage, dumps the load onto the front tyre in one go and unsettles a long machine like the Hayabusa. The whole sequence depends on the fingers arriving at the blade without searching for it. With the adjuster set so that the lever rests under the first finger joints, the opening touch can be as delicate as it needs to be. Length plays its part too: the long blade places the fingertips further from the pivot, so the same pressure at the master cylinder asks less of the hand, which is welcome when a hard stop comes after hours in the saddle. The short blade leaves two fingers on the brake and two around the throttle, the way many riders set up for track days.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's catalogue carries the EDF041 under the name GSX-R 1300 for the years 2013 to 2020, the later part of the Hayabusa's second generation. There is a period of overlap: the older EDF014 brake lever is also named for the Hayabusa, for 1999 to 2012 and again for 2014 to 2017. With two references covering some of the same model years, a quick comparison of your original lever against the product photos is the reliable way to choose. The clutch is covered by the ESS014, which Accossato lists for the whole run from 1999 to 2020.
Road Approval
The EDF041 comes without a documented German ABE; we therefore sell it for circuit riding.
