DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Crosstourer took the V4 of the VFR1200F and built a tall, shaft-driven adventure tourer around it, a bike for crossing a continent at an unhurried pace. Crossing mountains usually means tunnels: dark after bright sunshine, sometimes damp at the portal, often with a queue at the far end. Accossato's EDF018 is a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever for the Crosstourer, listed from 2013 to 2018, with a reach you can set so the brake is under your fingertips when the light suddenly changes.

Key Features

  • Brake lever for the Honda VFR1200X Crosstourer, 2013 to 2018
  • Listed for manual and DCT versions
  • Mounts on the original master cylinder
  • Adjustable reach
  • Standard blade approximately 138 mm; long blade in blue, gold, green and orange
  • Anodised aluminium with black hub
  • Rigid, one-piece construction
  • Sold for track use; no German ABE documented

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato machines the EDF018 from solid aluminium and anodises it in two tones: black for the hub, which houses the pivot and the reach adjuster, and the colour of your choice for the blade. A machined lever keeps a uniform section along its length, and the anodised surface holds its colour through years of touring weather. The blade is rigid and continuous, without a hinge, so the feel at the lever stays the same from the first day of a trip to the last.

In and Out of Tunnels

For a second or two after entering a tunnel from bright daylight, the eyes see very little. Experienced riders therefore slow down before the portal rather than inside it, and keep a little more distance from the vehicle ahead. The road surface at the entrance can be wet or dusty where water runs off the rock, so any braking is gentle and finished before the bike reaches it. The exit brings the same in reverse, with glare and sometimes a gust of wind. A heavy bike like the Crosstourer feels steady in these moments, but it depends on a front brake you can apply without looking or searching. Adjust the EDF018 so that your fingers find the blade from their relaxed position on the grip, with no gap left to close. The standard blade suits most riders on a tourer. For thick touring gloves, the long blade offers more leverage and room for the whole hand.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the EDF018 for the VFR1200X Crosstourer from 2013 to 2018 and names the DCT version for 2014 to 2018. As the brake is operated the same way on both, this lever serves either gearbox. The ESH033 clutch lever is listed for the Crosstourer with manual gearbox over the same 2013 to 2018 period.

Road Approval

Accossato has not documented a German ABE for the EDF018, so the lever is sold for use on the track.
