DescriptionThe whole story▼
The first R nineT bikes reached their owners in 2014, and many of them are now ridden the way classic motorcycles are: on dry days, with long breaks while salt lies on the roads. A machine that spends months standing is judged by how gracefully its parts age. Accossato's EDB077, a brake lever milled from aluminium for the R nineT of 2014 to 2016, has an adjustable reach and an anodised finish that does not rely on paint to keep its colour.
Key Features
- For the BMW R nineT of the 2014, 2015 and 2016 model years
- Works with the BMW master cylinder already on the bike
- Adjuster by the pivot sets the distance to the grip
- Lengths: standard of about 138 mm, short and long
- Colour formed from the aluminium surface by anodising
- Black hub; blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
- Rigid blade from hub to tip
- Road approval: no German ABE documented, track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato mills the EDB077 out of a solid aluminium blank and then anodises it, and that last step matters on a bike that sits out the winter. Anodising converts the outer layer of the aluminium into a hard oxide that carries the colour, so there is no coat of paint that could lift at an edge or blister underneath. The hub is finished black whatever blade colour you order, and it holds the reach adjuster next to the pivot. Along the blade there is no hinge at all, and therefore no folding joint that could stiffen during months in a cold garage.
Before and After the Winter Break
When the R nineT goes into storage, give the brake lever a minute of attention. Wipe off road dirt and moisture before the cover goes on, because grime left on any metal holds water against it for months. Anodised aluminium copes with that far better than a painted part, but it still looks better in spring if it was put away clean. Before the first ride of the new season, pull the lever with the bike standing, feel for a firm point and check that the brake light reacts as soon as the blade moves. Early spring rides often call for heavier gloves, so moving the blade out by one position may help on the first cold outings.
Two Brake Levers for the Early Years
Accossato lists two brake levers for the R nineT of 2014 to 2016: this EDB077 and the EDB001, which continues to the 2022 bikes. Both come with the same black hub, the same seven colours and the same three lengths. The list does not explain how they differ, so hold your original lever up against the pictures of both before ordering and choose the shape that matches.
Fitment and Compatibility
The EDB077 is listed for the R nineT from 2014 to 2016 only; bikes from 2017 onwards are covered by the EDB001. The clutch side of the early bikes can be matched with the ESC075, named for the same three years, or with the ESB002, which Accossato gives for the R nineT from 2014 to 2022.
Road Approval
This lever has no documented German ABE; we therefore offer it for circuit riding only.
