That asymmetry is the fair way to look at this element. The restriction it adds rises through the service interval and returns to its starting value the moment the element is cleaned. Abrasive wear is the opposite. It accumulates in one direction only, it is silent while it happens, and no service resets it. Choosing a medium is therefore not a comparison of two lines on a data sheet but a decision about which account the motorcycle is charged. Five microns of extra aperture is a small figure. It is also a permanent one.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eThe engine this makes sense on\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eOn a 675 prepared for circuit use the account does get settled: the engine is opened on a schedule, the top end is inspected, and the flow is wanted exactly where a supersport spends its time, in the last two thousand revolutions before the limiter. On a Daytona that commutes and is expected to reach a high mileage without ever being apart, the same trade is made on an account nobody intends to settle. What would be wrong is fitting the racing weave without knowing which of those two motorcycles is in the garage.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eCare and cleaning\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eService on the PM143S F1-85 starts at the clean face: compressed air pushed outwards through the panel, so the dirt leaves along the path it arrived by. Where a season has left more than air will shift, lukewarm water and mild detergent take over, rinsed until the water runs clear. Drying happens in open air and takes as long as it takes; heat guns and flames are never used, and it returns to the airbox dry, with no oiling step.
