Moto Guzzi has done this often enough that owners are used to it, but it does put the bike at the thin end of every parts list ever compiled, because parts lists are organised around how many were built. The interesting thing about the airbox is that it does not know any of this. The Sprint Filter P08 PM138S sitting inside it was never a one-year part and never a Racer part — which is precisely why it is a sensible thing to fit.

Key Features

Dry polyester construction; the medium is never treated with oil at any point

80-micron aperture, quoted at 5,050 l/m²/sec by the manufacturer

Approximately double the filtering area of a comparable performance element

Straight exchange inside the untouched factory airbox, with no reprogramming

Serviced by washing rather than by ordering, for as long as the bike is kept

Two years of cover from the manufacturer, dated from purchase

A model year is a very thin slice

Twelve months of production is a rounding error in a catalogue that has to justify holding stock. Anything unique to the 2015 Racer is, by definition, needed by nobody else, and that shows up first in the small items: gaskets, seals, filters, the parts that are cheap enough to discontinue quietly. Anything shared, by contrast, keeps being made because eleven other reasons to make it exist. The whole practical question when maintaining a single-year machine is which of the two categories a given component belongs to.

This one belongs to the wide category

The box was designed for the small-block platform, not for one variant of it, and the panel is listed against twenty-one motorcycles built across a quarter of a century. That spread does two things for a Racer owner. It keeps the number commercially alive, and it means the part is stocked by people who have never heard of the model — you are not hunting a rarity, you are buying a family component. Fit it once, clean it thereafter, and the single-year problem It is not a tuning part and does not pose as one: the 2015 Racer keeps the output it was homologated with and gains a service item that never runs out.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air, applied to the clean face and directed outwards, is the whole of the routine service. A wash comes into it only when air stops shifting anything: tepid water, mild detergent, rinsed as often as the run-off stays coloured. What follows is the part people rush and should not — full air-drying at room temperature, with no heat source and no flame involved, however long it takes. Refit it dry; nothing is applied afterwards. The maker's leaflet is attached under Downloads.

Fitment & Compatibility

Listed for the Moto Guzzi V7 II Racer ABS of 2015. Twenty-one machines in total take this panel, from BMW singles of the early 2000s to current V7s; the Fitment tab gives the full account.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0949/7831/0410/files/PM138S_41717a74-330a-4522-ae8d-0f002dc7b3cc.png?v=1787141882
