The Alpine Edition and the Desert Edition were the last of the Tiger Explorers, built from 2020 to 2022 and equipped for riders who leave for a while. Equipment for that kind of travel raises the same servicing question: what has to be carried, and what can be done with what you find on the way. An air filter normally lives on the carry list: a spare element, flat-packed, and the hope that it is the right one when it is needed. The Sprint Filter T12 moves that item off the list. It is a dry polyester special non-woven filtering to 7 microns at a rated 560 l/m²/sec, and it is washed and refitted rather than replaced, so the maintenance travels with the bike instead of in the panniers.
Key Features
- Dry polyester special non-woven at 7 microns, the finest medium in the Sprint Filter range
- Rated flow 560 l/m²/sec: extreme conditions, off-road use and desert dust
- Compressed air alone services it — no oil, no cleaner, nothing to source on the road
- A dry medium: nothing can migrate onto the air sensor or into the throttle bodies
- It goes into the standard airbox directly, without modification or remap
- Two years of warranty date from the purchase
Service with nothing on the shopping list
Compressed air is the one workshop supply that exists everywhere vehicles are repaired; any small-town tyre shop has a line and a nozzle. In the field that is the entire procedure for the PM202T12. There is no oil to find in the right grade, nothing to dose correctly, and no way to over-oil an element and send a film into a sensor. Where the water is clean, a wash with mild detergent goes further; where it is not, the air line alone gets you to the next town.
Two elements are a reasonable answer
A long route is rarely one kind of air. The transit to the interesting part is usually motorway, and on motorway the 7-micron medium is the wrong end of the trade: finer holds back more and passes less, which is why the P08 stands at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec while this one stands at 7 and 560. Riders planning a dusty leg often keep the road element as the spare and swap once at the edge of the terrain, rather than compromising across the whole trip. Either way, no filter makes a standard triple noticeably stronger; you are buying what reaches the engine, and a restriction you can reset yourself.
Care and cleaning
The routine works from the inside of the element outwards: compressed air on the clean side, pushing the load back out. A deeper clean means a wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear, then a complete dry in the air. Heat and flame are never used, and the element is never refitted damp. At no stage is there oil. The maintenance sheet is filed in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Triumph Tiger Explorer Alpine Edition and Desert Edition built from 2020 to 2022. The element is shared with the rest of the family — six Tiger Explorer listings in total, back to 2011 — so it stays a catalogue item long after a limited edition stops being one. The full list is in the Fitment tab.
