The SRT 900 reached customers for the 2025 model year, which puts nearly every one of them at an unusual moment: the element that left the factory is still in the airbox, and no replacement has yet been bought. This is the tidiest point in a motorcycle's life at which to settle the question, because a paper panel is bought, fitted, loaded and thrown away, and the following one starts the same loop again. Deciding now keeps the running count of discarded elements for this bike at zero.
Key Features
- 80-micron dry polyester weave, rated flow 5,050 l/m²/sec
- Never oiled — supplied dry and refitted dry, with nothing to reapply
- Direct replacement for the series panel of the 900 cc SRT, no remap needed
- About twice the filtering fabric of an ordinary performance element
- Held back 93.13 % of 100-micron particles in the manufacturer's comparison
- Designed for the service life of the motorcycle; two-year warranty
Deciding before the first service
Nothing about a first-year machine makes this element work better. What changes is only the arithmetic of ownership: fit it at the first service interval and every subsequent one is a wash rather than a purchase, and the original panel can be kept, labelled and put on a shelf in case the bike is ever sold on with its factory parts. Owners who arrive at a washable filter later still gain the same thing, they simply gain it having already paid for consumables in between. There is no urgency in this and no offer attached to it — it is only that the decision is cleanest while the answer is still unspent.
What actually changes on the bike
Less than the marketing of intake parts usually suggests. A slot-in element does not make a standard SRT 900 noticeably stronger, and anyone promising that is selling the wrong story. The airbox volume, the intake tract, the throttle bodies and the map are unchanged, and they set what the engine can do. What the P08 alters is the resistance the engine meets at the very front of that chain — lower to begin with, and, more usefully, stable, because cleaning returns the cloth to its own starting condition instead of leaving it a little further along each time. On a machine bought new, that stability is the whole proposition.
Care and cleaning
Service it with a compressed-air line held to the clean side, working outwards so the load leaves along its entry path. If air alone leaves a film behind, lukewarm water and a small amount of mild washing-up liquid will shift it, followed by a thorough rinse. Then let it dry in ambient air — never with a hot-air gun, on a radiator or near a flame — and refit it dry, with no oil and no treatment of any sort. The PM281S maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab of this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the airbox of the QJ Motor SRT 900 in S and SX form, 900 cm³, model years 2025 and 2026, one element per bike. The same code also serves the 800 cc SRT and a Benelli, three machines in total; the full list is in the Fitment tab.
