The Shape, End to End

A Sinfonia is one continuous cone. It starts widest at the front, immediately behind the bracket, and narrows gently and without interruption until it reaches a rolled outlet noticeably smaller than the body ever was. There is no shoulder, no step, no flare.

The effect on a motorcycle is length rather than presence. Where a flared silencer draws the eye to its mouth, a tapered one pulls the line rearward and makes the whole side of the bike read as longer and lower. On a T120, which is a tall and rounded machine, that is a real difference and not a small one.

Choosing Between the Two Spark Shapes

GTR0208 and GTR0209 cost the same 856 euro, weigh the same 3,7 kg, carry the same Euro 4 approval and bolt to the same brackets. Nothing separates them except the outline.

So the decision is purely visual, and it is worth making it from the photographs rather than from a description. The Trumpet ends in an open bell; the Sinfonia narrows to a small circle. Riders who want the classic British silhouette generally take the Trumpet, and riders who want the exhaust to sit quietly along the flank take this one.

Three and a Half Kilos, and the Papers Stay

7,1 kg of factory silencers and pipework becomes 3,7. The approval that makes that legal on a road motorcycle was issued by the Italian Ministry of Transport, and it is written around the standard catalytic converter remaining in place.

Both halves of that sentence matter. There are lighter exhausts for a T120 and there are cheaper ones, but an approved slip-on that leaves the converter alone is a narrow category.

AISI 304 Under a Brushed Finish

Stainless throughout, finished with Scotch-Brite so the grain runs along the body. On a tapered can the brushed lines follow the cone, which is a large part of why the shape reads as clean at a distance — there is nothing on the surface to interrupt the taper.

Where the Engine Feels It

Spark puts the improvement at medium revs. A Bonneville T120 is a torque-led 1.200, ridden in the middle of its range almost all of the time, and an exhaust developed for that part of the band is worth more on this motorcycle than a peak-power claim would be.
