DescriptionThe whole story▼

Öhlins part number 00480-11 is a shock absorber spring rated at 15-24 N/mm, 230 mm long with a 46 mm inner diameter. The damper can only control the spring it is given; the wrong rate makes every click a compromise.

Key Features

  • Measured spring rate 15-24 N/mm (progressive)
  • 130 mm of usable stroke
  • Öhlins part number 00480-11
  • Free length 230 mm
  • Progressively wound
  • Inner diameter 46 mm
  • Powder-coated yellow

How Öhlins Makes Them

Two units carrying the same part number behave the same way out of the box, which is the whole point of testing each one. Materials read unremarkably on paper — aluminium, steel, nitrogen — and the difference lies in how precisely they are made. Production has stayed in Sweden since the company was founded in 1976.

Size and Rate

Free length 230 mm, inner diameter 46 mm, rate 15-24 N/mm — those three figures define the part completely.

How a Rear Spring Works

The damper can only control the spring it is given; the wrong rate makes every setting a compromise. Öhlins sells rear springs separately precisely because rider weight varies more than machine weight does. Static sag at the rear sets the whole chassis attitude — get it wrong and the front geometry goes with it.

Applications

There is no model list for this size because the spring is a dimensional part: it fits whatever fork it physically fits. A spring is one of the few suspension parts that is genuinely interchangeable: same bore, same free length, and it goes in. Öhlins offers rates in defined steps so a change can be made in one direction at a time rather than by guesswork.

Fitting

A spring that is the correct length still needs the preload spacer checked, since installed length is what sets sag. The fork legs come off, the springs are swapped and the oil level is reset — half a day in most workshops. The springs come powder-coated and need no preparation before they go in.

Road Approval

Road approval: springs are not separately type-approved in Germany because they substitute a part that is already homologated with the fork. Model-specific documents, where they exist, are named above.

Fitting and Setup Service

Fitting matters as much as the part. We are an authorised Öhlins service centre and carry out installation, servicing and setup ourselves — get in touch and we will arrange it alongside your order.
