DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Leatt Neck Brace 4.5 sits between the 3.5 and the 5.5 in Leatt's range, and its reason to exist is the rear strut: it adjusts two ways, so riders whose back shape or protector does not suit a single setting can still get the brace to sit flat. The frame is reinforced polyamide, the weight starts at 575 g, and it comes in S/M, L/XL and XXL.
This is the Grey version, a neutral shade that sits well with both dark and colourful motocross, enduro and trail kit.
Key Features
- Two-way adjustable rear thoracic strut
- Reinforced polyamide main structure, from 575 g
- Sizes S/M, L/XL and XXL
- CoreFlex split rear strut that moves with you and breaks away before causing injury
- Collarbone cut-out and helmet rim platform
- Sculptured split front
- Durable injected foam padding, easy to clean
- Compatible with Leatt Brace-On body protectors
Two-way rear adjustment
Where the 3.5 has one rear setting, the 4.5's thoracic strut can be adjusted in two ways. That extra range helps if you have a pronounced or very flat upper back, or if you ride with a back protector that changes how the strut lands. The aim, as Leatt's manual describes it, is a brace that rests on the shoulders and back without rocking, with the helmet rim close to the brace when you look up but not lifted by it.
There is no centimetre size chart from Leatt for neck braces. Pick S/M, L/XL or XXL by build, then check the fit at home with your own helmet and protector. If the brace still feels wrong after adjusting, ask us; it is better to swap sizes than to ride with a brace that sits badly.
Frame and materials
The 4.5 uses reinforced polyamide for 85% of its structure, a step stiffer than the polymer composite of the 3.5. The rear thoracic strut adds nylon (10%), and the padding is polyurethane foam (5%). The CoreFlex rear section is split, so it folds with the spine during normal riding and is meant to break away under extreme pressure before it can hurt the back.
Protection and certification
In a crash the 4.5 limits helmet travel and moves load away from the neck into the stronger structures of the shoulders and torso. The optimised rim platform gives the helmet a landing surface, while the collarbone cut-out keeps that edge off the bone. Leatt reports that its braces cut critical cervical spine injuries by up to 89% and collarbone injuries by up to 45% against riding without one, quoting an independent moto study by Action Sports EMS; this is the maker's figure, not our own test.
The 4.5 is CE tested and certified to the PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425.
Body protector compatibility
The 4.5 works with Leatt's Brace-On system, so if your chest or body protector carries Brace-On shoulder pads, the brace sits on them instead of on your bare shoulders.
Care and service life
Clean padding and frame with soap and water only. Per Leatt's manual, a brace that has been through a crash is not to be used again, and with frequent use it should be replaced every two years. Packaging is plastic-free.
What you should know
- Heavier than the 3.5 (from 575 g instead of 485 g) in exchange for the extra adjustment.
- Front adjustment as on the 5.5 is not part of the 4.5.
- Fit is checked on the rider; there is no cm chart.
- Wear only with a full-face off-road helmet; it does not replace riding skill.
Colour
Grey is the middle ground between black and bright colours. It does not shout like orange or red, it hides dust better than white, and it reads as clean and technical next to almost any kit. Light mud stains show a little more than on black, but a rinse with water brings the grey back quickly.
