The suggested baseline settings — 16 clicks compression, 18 clicks rebound, 10 mm preload — give a sensible starting point for a standard-weight rider on street tyres, with plenty of range to firm things up for track use. The 185 mm oil / air cap position is likewise a recommended baseline, not a fixed value, so you can run more or less air volume as your setup evolves.
