DescriptionThe whole story▼

A Streetfighter 848 is no longer a new motorcycle, and the parts that show it first are rarely the expensive ones. Plastic grows brittle with heat cycles and ultraviolet light, edges go chalky, a screwdriver slot rounds off, and one day a cap that has been opened a hundred times decides not to co-operate. On an engine as visible as this one, that detail is in plain sight. Accossato's FP004 replaces the oil filler cap with CNC-machined aluminium, thread M20x2.5, in eight anodised colours.

Key Features

  • Oil filler cap for the Ducati Streetfighter 848, 2011 to 2016
  • M20x2.5 thread, the size Accossato quotes
  • Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised
  • Eight colours: blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium, gold
  • Suits other motorcycles with a filler of the same size
  • TS012 rear brake reservoir cap listed for the same bike
  • No German ABE on file; listed for competition use

Construction and Material Quality

Aluminium and two processes are all there is to the FP004: CNC machining for the shape, anodising for the colour, with eight shades on offer from titanium, silver and black to gold, red, orange, blue and green. Accossato publishes the thread size, M20x2.5, and nothing else in the way of dimensions, because the thread is what settles the question of fit. The maker covers the applications on its list and adds that motorcycles elsewhere with the same filler size are equally served. On a Streetfighter 848, where the engine and its covers are part of the styling, the material change is visible from the pavement.

When the Original Cap Turns Brittle

Machines of this age reward a careful hand. Remove the old cap when the engine is cold, not warm, and take your time with it; a part that has become fragile is easier to damage than to persuade. Clean around the filler first, because an engine that has covered real mileage carries real dirt on its casings, and none of it should go inside. Look at the thread in the cover as well as on the cap once it is off, since years of heat and grit leave their mark there too; a wipe with a clean cloth is usually enough. Check the level in the position the owner's manual prescribes, with the Streetfighter 848 held properly rather than leaning, and add oil in small amounts if it is needed, using the grade the manual names. Turn the FP004 in by hand until it seats and stop. Hand pressure is all a cap of this kind asks for, and it is also what makes the next check easy. After the first ride, look under the engine and confirm that everything is dry.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the FP004 for the Streetfighter 848 from 2011 to 2016. Fit is decided by the M20x2.5 thread, so the cap can serve other motorcycles whose filler takes that size, and in our catalogue it is also shown for the Monster 795, the Hypermotard 821 and the Diavel. If the engine cover on your machine has been replaced, or if it already carries a cap of unknown origin, measure before ordering. Accossato also offers the TS012 for the rear brake reservoir of this bike.

Road Approval

An ABE or test certificate for the FP004 is not in our possession, so we list the cap for racing and competition purposes.
