DescriptionThe whole story▼
A new pair of tyres is one of the nicest things you can buy for a Monster 1200, and for the first few kilometres one of the most treacherous. Fresh rubber has a smooth, sometimes slightly slick surface, and until it has been scrubbed in it can offer less grip than the worn tyre it replaced, especially on a cold day. The ride home from the tyre fitter is where many riders learn this. For the Monster 1200 of 2014 to 2018, Accossato's front fork protection carries the code PF05: two black sliders to take the first contact if the front end washes out.
Key Features
- Accossato PF05 front axle sliders for the Ducati Monster 1200, 2014 to 2018
- Two protectors, one for each side
- Aluminium combined with plastic, finished black
- Spacers, screws and all other mounting parts supplied by Accossato
- Designed to touch down before the fork does
- Pairs with the PP069 rear sliders and the TP080 crash pads
- No German ABE on file; for track and competition
Construction and Material Quality
The PF05 consists of two protectors in black, one for the left and one for the right of the front wheel. Aluminium and plastic are the materials Accossato names, and the company states that spacers, screws and all further parts for the installation come in the same box. What the sliders offer is a place for a fall to land. When the Monster 1200 slides or tips, they should touch the ground ahead of the fork, which can reduce the damage in that area; they cannot promise that nothing else gets marked. Treat them as consumables and renew one once it has been ground down or knocked out of shape.
The First Ride on New Tyres
Tyre fitters see the same scene again and again: a rider collects the bike on new rubber, sets off briskly and comes back with a scraped lever. Their advice is simple. Treat the first stretch as a warm-up. Keep the Monster 1200 fairly upright through the first roundabouts, brake in a straight line and add lean angle gradually, so that the shiny surface of the tread is roughened a little at a time from the centre outwards. Stay off painted lines and metal covers while you do it. Before leaving the workshop, check the pressures yourself and ask whether the wheels went back in as the manual describes, because a new tyre usually means the wheel has been out. Cold weather slows the whole process down, and a wet road makes it pointless to hurry. Once you are home, take a moment to look over the bike, sliders included.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the PF05 for the Monster 1200 built from 2014 to 2018; for the bikes of 2019 to 2021 it has a different pair, the PF049. Two more Accossato protection parts exist for this Monster: the PP069 rear axle sliders, listed from 2014 to 2017, and the TP080 crash pads for 2014 to 2018. In our shop the PF05 is also linked to the Monster 1200 S and the Multistrada 1260, among others. After fitting, turn the front wheel by hand and swing the bars fully both ways to be sure nothing touches, and check the screws on your Monster 1200 again after the first ride.
Road Approval
The PF05 comes to us without a German ABE or any test report, so we sell it for racing and competition use.
