DescriptionThe whole story▼
Two people and their luggage on a Ducati Hyperstrada 821 add up to a heavy load, and in any stop the front brakes take the larger share of the work. Riders who tour two-up learn to begin their stops earlier and more smoothly. For the Hyperstrada 821 of 2013 to 2016, Accossato lists the DKS053: a floating front disc with a black carrier, 320 mm across and 5.5 mm thick, one of two Accossato options for this bike.
Key Features
- Floating front disc for the Ducati Hyperstrada 821, 2013 to 2016, with or without ABS
- 320 mm diameter, 5.5 mm thickness
- 72 mm bore; five holes of 8.5 mm at 90 mm hole-centre distance
- Black carrier, riveted friction ring
- Interchangeable with the original disc
- Printed minimum working thickness
- One disc per order, two per bike
- No German ABE documented; circuit use
Construction and Material Quality
Rivets with a defined clearance hold the friction ring of the DKS053 on its black carrier, so the ring floats. Five 8.5 mm holes in the carrier take the bolts to the wheel, spaced on a 90 mm hole-centre distance, and the disc centres on a 72 mm bore. According to Accossato, it is interchangeable with the original disc. The company bases its disc design on racing experience from Superbike to Moto2 and Moto3 and points to the attention it pays to the fit between ring and carrier.
Touring for Two
With a passenger aboard, every firm stop pushes two bodies forward. A passenger who holds on securely and moves with the bike makes it easier to control, and a short talk before the trip about what happens when the rider slows hard avoids surprises. The rider can help by squeezing the lever progressively, so the fork settles before the full force arrives, and by leaving more distance to the traffic ahead. For the discs, extra weight means extra heat, especially in the mountains. Before a two-up trip on the Hyperstrada 821, check that both front discs are clearly above the minimum thickness printed on them and that the pads have plenty of material left.
Fitment and Compatibility
Both the Hyperstrada 821 with ABS and the version without are on Accossato's list for the DKS053, from 2013 to 2016. Two discs are fitted to the front wheel, and the price covers one. The DK053, a millimetre thinner, is the other Accossato disc for this model, and Accossato lists brake and clutch levers for it too.
Road Approval
No German ABE or type approval is documented for the DKS053. It is offered for closed-circuit use.
Scope of Delivery
One DKS053 floating front disc on a black carrier; the second side needs another disc.
