The half of filtration that is fitting

Because this element replaces the paper panel inside the housing it was drawn for, the sealing face is the factory one and nothing has to be improvised — the useful part of a direct replacement, and worth not squandering. Wipe the rim of the case before the mat goes back, so that no grit is trapped under the seal holding a gap open. Seat it square in the frame instead of pressing one corner home first. Bring the lid down evenly. None of that takes a minute, and all of it decides whether 14 µm is a description of the air or only of the fabric.

That surrender is deliberate, and it stands for as long as the element is in the box. It does not return as performance — an element dropped into an unmodified airbox has no way of making a 368E stronger, and anything sold on that promise is describing a different job altogether. What is bought is a finer barrier ahead of the inlet tract and a restriction that is restored to its own starting value each time the mat is cleaned.

Care and cleaning

Hold an air line to the clean side of the SM295P14 and work outwards; dry dust leaves the way it arrived. Anything greasy wants lukewarm water and a small amount of mild detergent, rinsed through until nothing further comes away. Then dry it slowly, in moving air at room temperature and nowhere near heat, because a hot-air gun or a radiator finishes the medium long before the damage is visible.
