DescriptionThe whole story▼

The JP EX 001 A answers for the R nineT's exhaust valve servo once a system without a valve is fitted.

Key Features

  • BMW R nineT (2014–2020)
  • Answers for the exhaust valve servo
  • No warning on the instrument panel
  • Plugs into BMW's own connector
  • For a system with no exhaust valve
  • Standard servo refits at any time

What the Servo Does

A small motor pulls a cable that rotates a butterfly inside the silencer, opening it as engine speed and load rise. It exists to satisfy a noise measurement rather than to make power.

A Potentiometer Inside It

The motor reports its own position back to the controller. That feedback is the reason the servo cannot simply be unplugged when the exhaust it operated has gone.

What Happens Without It

The controller commands a movement, receives nothing back and records a fault. The warning stays on the panel and returns after every reset.

Emulated Properly

This unit answers with the position feedback the controller expects, so the self-test passes and nothing is stored for a later diagnostic session.

Aftermarket Systems Rarely Have One

A valve costs money, adds weight and exists for a regulation the aftermarket is not bound by. Almost no performance exhaust for this bike includes one.

The Ninetieth Anniversary Bike

BMW launched the R nineT in 2014 to mark ninety years of motorcycle production, and it turned into a model line rather than a one-off because the reception was so strong.

Spoked Wheels and a Modular Frame

The rear subframe unbolts and the wiring is accessible, which is why so many of these end up rebuilt. An exhaust change is usually the first step.

One Connector

BMW's own plug at the servo position, with no adapters and nothing spliced anywhere in the harness.

Keep the Servo

It refits with the standard exhaust and is worth something to the next owner. Nothing in this conversion damages it.

Noise Approval

The valve is part of how the motorcycle meets its noise limit. Removing it changes that, whatever the exhaust manufacturer's paperwork claims.
