DescriptionThe whole story▼
Three point six eight kilograms. The CBR250RR is a 250 cc twin weighing 168 kg, and its standard silencer accounts for 5.53 of that — heavier than the exhaust on several litre bikes in this catalogue.
Key Features
- 1.85 kg against the standard 5.53 kg: 3.68 kg and 66.5 per cent less
- Carbon fibre construction
- 0.5 Nm more at 6,000 rpm and 0.4 PS at 11,950 rpm
- Removable noise insert included
- One part number covering ten model years
- No road approval — circuit use only
Buy It for the Weight
0.4 horsepower is inside the noise of any dyno run and nobody will feel it. The 3.68 kg is a different matter: two per cent of the motorcycle, taken from high on the right-hand side behind the rider, which is the position where mass does the most harm to how quickly a bike changes direction.
On a 250 sportsbike ridden hard, that is the change worth paying for, and we would rather lead with it than with a power figure that means nothing.
A Bike Sold Mostly in Asia
Honda builds the CBR250RR for Indonesia, Thailand and Japan, where a 250 twin is a licence and tax class rather than a beginner's compromise. European examples are imports, and there are enough of them for Akrapovic to catalogue parts.
That also explains the ten-year part number: Honda has kept the machine in production largely unchanged since 2017.
Forty-Five Minutes
Longer than most slip-ons, because the CBR250RR is fully faired and the lower panel has to come off to reach the silencer bracket. Not difficult work, but not a five-minute job either.
Carbon, Not Titanium
Akrapovic builds this one in carbon. On a fully faired sportsbike the silencer sits low and beside the fairing, where a carbon weave reads against the plastic rather than disappearing into it — and where titanium's heat colours would be half hidden anyway.
An Insert Comes With It
The removable noise insert is worth keeping with the bike. On a 250 four-stroke twin the difference it makes is substantial, and on a track day with a static noise check it is the difference between riding and not.
Ten Model Years
Honda has built the CBR250RR essentially unchanged since 2017, through a 2020 power update that did not touch the exhaust mounting. One part number covers the whole run, which on an imported machine is worth knowing.
A 250 Twin That Revs
The CBR250RR makes its peak power near twelve thousand, which is where Akrapovic measured the 0.4 PS. Honda built this engine to rev, with a short stroke and throttle-by-wire — it is closer to a scaled-down supersport than to a commuter twin.
