DescriptionThe whole story▼

A wet mountain descent puts a rear brake through the full range of its life inside a minute. The pedal is under load the whole way down, the disc of a GasGas EC 300 from the 2012 to 2020 years builds warmth it cannot shed, and then the track crosses a stream at the bottom and everything is doused at once. Accossato's answer for that rear caliper is the AGPP106 in the Sintered material, article AGPP106ST, a version the factory describes as holding the same level of grip whether the disc is hot or cold and as still gripping when water is on the face.

Key Features

  • Rear brake pads for the GasGas EC 300 of 2012 to 2020
  • AGPP106ST: the AGPP106 rear plate pressed in the Sintered material
  • Grip that stays level across a wide swing of disc temperature
  • Accossato names wet surfaces as part of the working range
  • Written for long descents, streams and year-round riding
  • The XC 300 of 2018 and 2019 shares the article
  • A single rear caliper takes the two plates in the box
  • No German ABE on record; supplied for competition

Construction and Material Quality

A 300 held back down a long hill is a brake under steady load, and a steady load is where changes in behaviour show up most plainly. If the response grows sharper as the disc warms, the rider has to keep taking pressure out of the pedal to hold the same speed; if it fades when the wheel goes through water, the next press has to be bigger. The Sintered version is offered as the one that removes both corrections and lets one habit serve the whole descent. Beneath the friction face sits the ordinary AGPP106 carrier, the same plate used by every version of this article, so the caliper is indifferent to the choice.

Warm Metal Meeting Cold Water

Stream crossings at the foot of a descent are the harshest thing most enduro discs ever meet. The steel is warm from the hill, the water is coming off snowmelt, and the two make contact in an instant. The brake itself will survive that, but the moment afterwards deserves respect: the faces are wet, the first application on the far bank does less than expected, and a rider who has not allowed for it arrives at the next turn quicker than planned. One light press as the wheel climbs out clears the surfaces.

The same physics applies in the wash bay, with less excuse. Let the bike stand until the disc is no longer warm before it meets a hose, and keep any jet away from the caliper mouth. Afterwards, ride the machine slowly and use the pedal a few times to drive the water out, rather than parking a soaked brake for the week. A rear disc that has been repeatedly shocked while hot can end up running slightly untrue, and the first sign of that is a pedal that pulses under the boot.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato gives this rear article the years 2012 to 2020 on the EC 300 and adds the XC 300 of 2018 and 2019 to the same entry. From 2021 the bike changed completely and its rear pad is the AGPP80, so the generation has to be settled before the order goes in. The front of the older 300 is listed twice, as the AGPA29 from 1999 and as the AGPA51 across 2000 to 2020. Two discs appear in the programme for this model, the DK018 and the DK259, and one box of pads covers the rear caliper.

Road Approval

No ABE for the AGPP106ST is held here, and no German inspection paperwork, so the pads are sold for competition and for riding away from public roads.

Scope of Delivery

One box, two AGPP106 pads in the Sintered material, the set the rear caliper of the EC 300 takes.
