DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Honda CBR500R was designed with the A2 licence in mind, a fully faired twin that is approachable for newer riders, and for some of them it is the bike on which they first try racing. Turning a road CBR500R into a race bike is a project of many small steps, most of them about removing things and making the rest safe. The FC125 from Accossato is listed for the CBR500R from 2016 to 2019, a quick-release cap machined entirely from aluminium, whose quick-closing pawl carries a pin in a colour of your choice.

Key Features

  • Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Honda CBR500R, 2016 to 2019
  • CNC-machined aluminium, entire body
  • Quick-closing pawl for fast opening and closing
  • Pin in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
  • Replacement pawl sold separately
  • New design from Accossato
  • No German ABE on record; for racing and track days

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato, founded in Moncalieri in 1969, machines the FC125 on CNC equipment with an all-aluminium body and says the cap is robust and durable, adding that the design is new. The quick-closing pawl makes opening and closing the tank of the CBR500R quick, and it carries a pin in one of six colours, one of the few decisions in a race conversion that is purely about looks. If the pawl is damaged, Accossato supplies a replacement on its own.

From Road Bike to First Race Bike

A race conversion starts with a list. Mirrors, indicators and number plate come off, lights are removed or taped, and the side stand often stays at home in favour of paddock stands. Drain and filler plugs are usually lockwired, and many championships ask for a belly pan that can hold fluids if the engine lets go. The fuel tank cap belongs on the same list. The original cap is part of the bike's road equipment and opens with the key; for racing, a quick-release cap makes pit-lane and paddock work simpler. When you fit the FC125 to the CBR500R, work with the engine cold and the tank not too full, clean the seat of the seal, and check for dampness after the first fill. Keep all the road parts together and labelled, the original cap among them, so the bike can go back on the road without a hunt through the garage. Then read your championship's technical rules line by line before the first scrutineering.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato gives the FC125 for the CBR 500 R of 2016 to 2019 only; for an older CBR500R, look at the list again or ask us before buying. The same cap is on sale with us for the CB500F, the CB500X and the CBR650R.

Road Approval

The FC125 has no documented German ABE and no parts certificate, so we sell it for racing and track use. For the road, the CBR500R's original cap, which normally locks with the ignition key, goes back on.
