Nobody buys a GSX-S150 new any more. The last ones were built in 2020, so every one that changes hands now arrives with a history somebody else wrote, and the airbox is the chapter of that history nobody can tell you about. Service records list oil and tyres; they rarely say what state the intake was in, or when the element was last out of the housing. A washable filter settles the question in one afternoon. Starting the record at zero

On a used machine the first look inside the airbox is worth more than any receipt, and it also tells you what the previous owner's roads were like: fine light dust, coarse grit, or the seed and pollen of a summer spent parked outdoors each leave a different picture. Whatever you find, the element that goes in afterwards is meant to be the last one the motorcycle needs. After that the job is compressed air rather than a part number — and on a model out of production since 2020, one consumable fewer to chase down is worth having.

Choosing the medium for your use, not theirs

The second owner also gets to pick the medium, and that is a real choice rather than a grade. The P08 filters at 80 microns and flows 5,050 litres per square metre per second; the P14 filters at 14 and flows 1,800. Finer holds back more and passes less — always a trade, never a ranking. Sprint Filter place the P14 with dust, everyday riding and long distances, which describes a 150 used as daily transport on roads whose dust you can see on the bodywork. Kept for clean-road riding or taken to track days, the same machine is better off with the wider flow margin of the P08.

Care and cleaning

From the day it goes in, the PM250P14 is maintained rather than replaced: compressed air through the medium from the clean side outwards, whenever a look inside suggests it. Where the air is not enough, lukewarm water with a mild detergent is, followed by a rinse until the water runs clear. Dry it completely in open air — never with heat, never with a flame — and refit it dry. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
